Let's just call it how it is: Canelo is only fighting Kovalev because he is old

I mean let's not kid ourselves here. Kovalev is a nice big name on Canelo's resume and he will probably drain him to get an advantage.

Would any of you guys seriously think Canelo would try to fight a 30 year old Kovalev? The one that was destroying Pascal and dropping Ward? Hell no...

And if you do think that...why isn't he mentioning any of the other active but younger champions at light Heavyweight like Bivol? Bivol is at DAZN as well so that fight would be easier to make. It's because Kovalev is old now, that's why...

EDIT- this is not a Canelo hate thread! You don't have to defend him in the comments like he is your bf (he won't date you!) I think we are all in agreement that he is fighting Kovalev for this reason.... because I haven't seen anyone deny that.

When Kovalev was 30 Canelo was fighting at like 147. How was he supposed to fight him then???????

Kovalev is definitely old but I think this fight is still intriguing for a number of reasons. Yarde was no pushover and Kovalev managed to take over an win in spectacular fashion. Kovalev still has enough in the tank to give anyone at 175 problems.

I think even with Kov's age there's a really good chance he could spark Canelo out on fight night provided he doesn't get drained to 170 or something crazy.

It is intriguing...but the bs that will be probably surround the fight like rehydration clauses and all that will ruin it.

He’s still coming up 2 weight classes to fight a much bigger guy regardless of age. It’s not like Kov is 45

Guys like GGG never did it and still isn’t willing to do it but you want to criticize Canelo?

So your argument is: "criticize GGG ...not my dear Canelo!"

We are talking about Canelo right now. This is the truth

Would Canelo have jumped up two classes to fight a prime Kovalev? Probably not.

But he’s still taking a risk jumping up to 175 and fighting a legitimate champion in Kovalev. Kovalev is inevitably in decline but he’s still a good fighter, if Canelo goes up to 175 and beats Kovalev clearly, I’ll give a him a lot of credit.

risk reward ratio should be your answer...
                  kovalev mid-risk big-reward
the other champs at 175 are high-risk low-reward...
at this point in his career canelo has no reason to make high-risk low-reward fights 2 division above his weight class, other fighters wouldnt even do it on their own weight class unless they are forced to do it...

Typical ggg fans for you, they think cashcow fighters should face "prime" opponents who are completely untested/unproven & don't provide name recognition & whom these jokers will just discredit anyways if he did,& Ironically they only hold Canelo to this standard & nobody else, according to them Wilder must be old & washed up because hes soon 34 & according to them ggg was aged by canelo facing him a yr & a half after winning the wbc,yet they say nelos ducking supposedly geriatric G for a supposed washed up Kovalev whos younger than divaG & far deadlier

If Canelo suddenly says hes going to face Andrade/Boo next they'll say he ducked kov as they were saying before Canelo made him his 1st true payday offer in his career, these are the same few who were decrying Pacquiao as a easy cherrypick opponent for Thurman or someone Thurman would ko at age 40,the same who have no complaints about whom anyone besides Canelo fights.

Its insane that if a fighter like Canelo fights Charlo/Andrade next they'll instantly discredit them as opponents like they did Jacobs the absolute best possible opponent at the time,& it's even more rediculous considering Canelo is already the rightful undisputed at mw,that pos WBO trinket andrade has is irrelevant,to top it off Canelo would be fighting 2 killers back to back & 3 in 4 fights in 3 weightclasses,& yet they don't say sht about whom the rest are fighting that make Kovalev look even more dangerous in comparison,& nelos literally the only fighter facing so many top names so often...
