Lead hook, followed by a wing block to keep range. Catch and counter, with a straight or uppercut, off the front shoulder in a crab shell defense. Long jab off of the line to reset position. Maintaining defensive awareness in the punch pocket. Etc.
It's the same teaching concept that undergirds how Roger and Big Floyd teach boxing.
Roger Mayweather wants you to be able to fire that good and clean right hand-hook-right hand, while also being able to catch-and-shoot with either hand.
Big Floyd wants you to set everything off of a nice crispy clean jab, understand your defensive awareness from range, and throw clean hard shots from range.
Just slow it down a bit

Him throwing these bizarre punches/backhands is just going to further ingrain and reinforce that weird asss technique in training and in an actual fight. It is seriously bizarre and then the fact that his trainer is cool with it is even weirder lol. Like yea, lets train our backhands today to prepare for the biggest fight of our lives next month.
You don't have to get it for it to work for him, tbh. Trust what brought you to the dance.

(in case some of you actually know what this was/is all about)...
If you throw a lead hook, you can expect to see 3-4 responses coming from that shot (which you should be able to see and deal with).
If you're fighting from the crab and inside, there are only a certain number of shots that you need to make sure you know how to deal with.
Resetting the angle off of a good jab is an effective way to get back to fighting range, etc.
You drill the proper response to each shot as it gets looked at, so much so that you couldn't forget the proper response in your sleep.
You've just got to make sure that the coach is plugging in the proper responses to the system (and that you've seen enough great sparring to deal with the unknown ****, like a 12-6 overhand right).

Kovalev isn't going to fight all that different than he's fought already; up and down Euro style, heavy from range, aggressive from range.
Yarde needs to work on his own game, whatever that is; control/understand range, be ready to fire effectively from close range.
We'll see how the fight plays out
