I'm liking the unification Trend Lately in Boxing

We got B-Hop unifying the middleweight crown way back in '04 and then Jermain Taylor won it and then it split up. Then we had Wladimir holding all bu the WBC. Then it split up for a bit after Fury and then it got unified under Joshua once again, except for the WBC with Wilder of course.

But in recent years, we got Bud unifiying 140, Usyk unifying cruiser and now it looks like Loma is on the feas track to unify 135. Also, Canelo is a breath away from unifying 160. This is very good for boxing. I wish the ABCs would obliterate and we'd have one body but that doesn't seem close to happening at all. However, they seem to be liking the unifications. They probably figure that they get paid either way which makes sense.

When it comes down to it, one champion per division would be a great thing for boxing. No more BS. In order to be the man, you have to beat one man- the guy at the top. It's far from perfect but it's getting there. As fans, we should always strive for the best fighting the best. Well, every fighter wants to be a champion. So now they have to really earn it by fighting the top dog. This is the direction boxing has needed to go in for a while. Eventually, you have to please the fans with real fights or the business dies. Glad to see things turning around, at least for now.

I also liked that WBC approved Loma to fight for their vacant title when Loma is a champion on other two organizations

Me, too. You know, when you really think about it, why can't we have the four bodies who are very unification friendly? Hell, start telling these belt holders that they have to unify or get stripped. Then, just like with the Loma situation, make the top contender fight one of the other champs and say he's champ of both at that point? And in the case of guys moving up and vacating, pick two of the number one contenders and let them fight but leave the titles unified so we don't have to go through this crap again? No tourneys either because tourneys get broken down by injuries and other reasons. Just two guys and just one fight. You drop out? Find a replacement and the fight must go down no matter what. Champs will be crowned and that's the bottom line. Would make boxing so much better.

Definitely positive, they did that with GGG and Canelo, and i hope they can do so with the Heavyweight division. Not sure why they aren't doing the same in that regards.

I personally don't like these unifications. I prefer it when nothing gets done and we can all b|tch and moan about what could be. It reminds me of way back when I was a youngster. We would hop on the ferry to Tonytown for the fights. The Ferry could take anywhere from 15 minutes to 3 hours depending on how hard the crew on the boat could whip the horses on the pulleys. But anyway, there was a candy shop at the dock that had the best chocolate covered bees and ants. We would savour those bees, the best in the world I tell ya. Well once we got to the fights we would start a riot. I am not sure why we would do it but it seemed to be the right thing to do at the time. We would meander around and wolf whistle at all the dames. Oh yeah the fights, well that is a story for another time. Those bees were fantastic.

I don't think it's impossible at all. The bodies still get their sanctioning fees and the champ fights twice a year. Money-wise, what's the difference? Plus, every champ is an actual champ, not a paper one like we've had for so many years now.

I will always be in favour of just one Champ and the rest contenders but even though it seems to be a bit of a trend to unify at the moment I still think it has a ways to go before the orgs get fully on board with it.

The WBC proposed this and organized a summit, but the WBO refused to participate.
