We got B-Hop unifying the middleweight crown way back in '04 and then Jermain Taylor won it and then it split up. Then we had Wladimir holding all bu the WBC. Then it split up for a bit after Fury and then it got unified under Joshua once again, except for the WBC with Wilder of course.
But in recent years, we got Bud unifiying 140, Usyk unifying cruiser and now it looks like Loma is on the feas track to unify 135. Also, Canelo is a breath away from unifying 160. This is very good for boxing. I wish the ABCs would obliterate and we'd have one body but that doesn't seem close to happening at all. However, they seem to be liking the unifications. They probably figure that they get paid either way which makes sense.
When it comes down to it, one champion per division would be a great thing for boxing. No more BS. In order to be the man, you have to beat one man- the guy at the top. It's far from perfect but it's getting there. As fans, we should always strive for the best fighting the best. Well, every fighter wants to be a champion. So now they have to really earn it by fighting the top dog. This is the direction boxing has needed to go in for a while. Eventually, you have to please the fans with real fights or the business dies. Glad to see things turning around, at least for now.
