Contracts are complicated all throughout sports, even major league sports. If a guys doesn't like his contract, don't sign. You value the opportunity and make your best decision. I don't see the harm in options if a promoter is investing in a fighter's future, but if fighter's have a genuine gripe then I'd like to hear their side of it.
I'm sure at the coffee table the week after a fight a fighter is b^tching about a million things cuz with all the expenses & cuts they gotta hand out they are probably taking home 45% give or take of their "$100,000 purse" or "$2M payday".

I think the business is TOO sided towards promoters is the issue. Promoters have far too much power. And sure no one has to sign anything, but a guy who's spent the last 15 years of his life learning his craft is gonna have to sign with someone or he's wasted most of his life on boxing. So even if he's getting buttf#cked by people smarting than him it makes more sense to most boxers than trying to become a used car dealer or telemarketer or w/e job someone with few real job skills that don't involve hitting another man in the face can get him.

The fact boxing is the most capitalism gone wild sport out there lends itself to the people with money, the promoters & the networks investing in boxing, having far too much power.

Why would any promoter bother spending the money to develop a fighter?

Getting a fighter from 0-0 to 25-0 and getting them ready for the first world title shot can often cost close to a million dollars.

What incentive would a promoter have to lose money on fight after fight after fight?

Limit contracts to one fight and the entire industry collapses.

But this business of forcing boxers to sign "options" in order to get certain fights seens corrupt as hell.

Like it's just a way to tie fighters down to promoters or broadcasters so that they can keep making money. Regardless of what moves the winning boxer might want to make for himself and his future.

LMAO the whole boxing game is corrupt and wrong.

They don't have this **** in any other sport.

What is wrong with consenting adults voluntarily making an agreement? Crying about options or multifight agreements. These are grown men doing business.

I offer to pay you to fight. Nobody forces you to accept.

Because you use money to manipulate people rather than beat them on a level playing field what sport is all about.

It would be an embarrassment if any other sport behaved that way.

No doubt. The business of boxing is sketchier than any other sports business out there.

Boxing needs a power structure thats helping to protect boxing & the integrity of the sport like every other sport has. Sure it'll never be perfect like no other sport is perfectly fair for everyone, but things can be much more fair, protective of the boxers & entertaining for fans.

If boxing made any f#cking sense guys like Don King, Bob Arum & all the ABC groups woulda been banned from the sport years ago when their corruption was exposed.

Every sport behaves this way. There are billions of dollars at stake in pro sports.

If you really believe every sport behaves that way you are clearly delusional

Do you think in tennis Federer can say he doesn't want to face Nadal in the final and give him some step aside money?

If Federer wants to play at Wimbledon, then he has to play against who they tell him to play against in each round. He's not able to say to Wimbledon, I'll only agree to one match at a time and after the first round of the tournament, I get to choose my next opponent. Wimbledon gets to decide who he plays next.
