Comments Thread For: WBO Prez: Saunders Gave Up Title Before Investigation Started

OMAHA, Nebraska Billy Joe Saunders voluntarily gave up his WBO middleweight title, rather than proceeding with that sanctioning organization's appeals process. Francisco "Paco" Valcarcel, the WBO's president, told krikya360.com of Saunders' decision Thursday and confirmed that the WBO's 160-pound title is now vacant. Top-ranked Demetrius Andrade (25-0, 16 KOs), of Providence, Rhode Island, and Namibia's Walter Kautondokwa (17-0, 16 KOs), the WBO's No. 2 contender, will fight for that unclaimed championship October 20 at TD Garden in Boston (DAZN).

According to fat boy dan he knew he was phuked and going to be stripped so vacated it before he got stripped.

"Also, I will recommend to the WBO executive committee that Saunders receives a six-month suspension for his transgression. But he has to do more. He has to work with the kids there [in England] at the boys' club, do community service, and then he has to be tested randomly and be negative all of the time. He needs a recommendation from the British Boxing Board of Control [to have the suspension lifted], and if he does all that we are willing to put him back in the rankings after his suspension."

Valcarcel said Saunders sent the WBO a letter to vacate the title and said that "he doesn't have time to appeal and for that reason he relinquished the title." Saunders could have gone through the WBO's appeals process, but based on the sanctioning body's typical response to similar incidents, he would have been stripped.

"He had the right to present all the evidence, but at the end he had to face the positive test," Valcarcel said.

This is more P.R. Bullshit coming from the WBO. They know they stripped Saunders. Saunders voluntarily relinquished his title my ass. They are on record stating that they would do just that if Saunders was ever denied a license for being popped for PED abuse . They said they were leaving the decision into the hands of the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission. WBO! Nice try guys. You lying pieces of shit

Will see if Canelo wants to unify he’ll have to negotiate with Andrade. If you ask me Felding is a perfect way to get acclimated to taller competition!

Glad they intend to ban him yet the British authorities will allow him to compete dirty as they did both Fury’s.

Just out curiosity, was Canelo, Povetkin, Ortiz and every other guy who popped dirty required to do all this? If the fight was taken place in the UK or without VADA then BJ would have been ok. Kinda ironic that VADA deems something illegal while WADA sees it another way and its VADA who uses WADA labs to conduct their testing.

i don't think Canelo cares about having all the belts or any belts. He's bigger than the belts really. He can sell big fights without them. same reason Floyd never chased all the belts.

He's shown in the past that he doesn't mind vacating titles if it doesn't fit in with their short term plans. He'll probably end up vacating some when there's a mandatory fight that he doesn't want or isn't worth it.
