The merger was always a BS excuse.

They lost Haymon and they lost Arum. You can't run a successful premium boxing series when you lose almost all of the top fighters.

The only stars HBO has are Canelo and GGG and they fight on PPV. And one of them is about to lose. HBO boxing is doomed. I've been saying it for years and I don't seem so crazy anymore do I?

No, the boxing budget definitely dropped. Obviously they lost Haymon/Arum and that didn't help, but they don't put on any boxing. And if they had the budget, what is to say they can't work with Haymon? It would make sense for Haymon to try to get some dates on HBO with the amount of fighters he has. They don't have TR anymore so a bunch of dates have opened up.....or they did when HBO was serious about boxing.

Btw, they started getting stingy with their money even BEFORE Top Rank left for ESPN. Arum was ticked off of how many fights they turned down and the lack of dates. Granted, some of the crap Arum was putting on was utter crap so HBO was in the right to do so in those cases.

Of course it dropped. I've been harping on that for years. But the point is that the merger was a BS excuse because they dropped the budget when they lost Haymon because they stopped seeing a ROI they were comfortable with. Boxing isn't worth HBO's time. The merger conveniently didn't drop the budget of Game of Thrones...

They don't put on any boxing because the suits have decided it's a waste of time.

I’ll be getting DAZN for the WBSS, but other than that I don’t expect big things

So true. Arum says, Hearn says....**** that noise.

Will be interesting to see the monthly price for DAZN. It is rumored to be between 10-15. Basically it will be the price of a premium package like SHO/HBO. I'll probably get it as well. Hopefully it doesn't have any streaming issues like ESPN+ did this past weekend.

The price I saw floating around was $20 a month I think. Which means I’ll likely cancel after the WBSS unless it gets some really good cards

Nah, don't think that is going to happen. The $20 per month price is what DAZN is in Canada, but it won't be that much in the states. DAZN in Canada has NFL rights, I believe some NBA rights and the English Premiere League rights. In the states, they aren't going to have these rights, minus possibly the EPL.

Yeah, I’m in Canada. Only worth it because it comes with the baseball package too, don’t know why it doesn’t offer NHL but offers the Russian hockey league. That’s going to appeal to Canadians lmao

Plus, I could give a **** about soccer

So now that we have some clarity of the fighters Hearn is going to revel next week, it is not quite what he had in mind when the DAZN deal was announced.

Andrade/Beterbiev/Hooker/Chavez Jr are pretty much the four confirmed fighters, and there were will be an additional three or four fighters added to the list. These aren't bad fighters (Minus JCC Jr), but are they really going to make people subscribe to DAZN for $9.99? Far cry from saying his target were fighters such as Gervonta Davis, Adrien Broner, Errol Spence, Deontay Wilder, Charlo bros etc. I have no idea why he was so confident he would be able to pry a lot of these guys away from Haymon and bring them to DAZN. He had such a terrible strategy. As I already mentioned, he should have been trying to make a deal with Haymon to work with him and get his guy on DAZN, instead of just doing what he did with Jacobs.

Now, he may be able to get a guy like Thurman and that would at least be a big name with some value. He wants to put on a big show in November but he doesn't have the stable to make a dent in boxing at the moment. Lets see if he get Mikey Garcia. He's said a few times he will talk to him after his fight with Easter Jr, so maybe he offers him something crazy like a 5-6 million purse and that may be enough for Garcia to make the move to DAZN.

Btw, really good for guys like Beterbiev/Andrade who were going nowhere in their careers. They will get good purses and hopefully stay active.
