Comments Thread For: Mikey Garcia May Remain at 140-Pounds After Loma-Linares Deal

This past Saturday night in Texas, Mikey Garcia (38-0, 30 KOs) became the IBF junior welterweight champion with a twelve round unanimous decision over Sergey Lipinets at the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio. Garcia is still the WBC world champion at the lightweight limit of 135-pounds.

Why won’t he unify with Easter? Imam is not a bigger fight and he gets destroyed at 147

haha! he might unify with the great 'Turbo' Terry Flanagan once Terry gets his hands on that Hooker for the 140 strap! I see it a mile away.

Maybe he thinks Easter isn't worth cutting back down to 135 for.

The Garcias don't seem to think that Mikey "gets destroyed at 147". Errol Spence's name keeps coming up in articles about Mikey.

A unification with the Ramirez/Iman winner could be nice, but then Mikey might get ****blocked by Bob Arum again. Did you notice how quickly the Loma-Linares fight got made after Mikey won his last fight? Arum couldn't stand the thought of Mikey and GBP making money together so he had to hurry up and snatch up Linares.

Mikey did get hit quite a bit against Lipinets. If he stays at 140 he has a difficult mandatory defense against Baranchyk who is a solid puncher. If he decides to go back down to 135 he should unify with Easter Jr., which to me would seem as the easier option considering how Easter Jr. has looked lately.

If he did that and beat Easter, the fans would then demand him fight the Linares/Loma winner. I've been suspecting this for a long time, Mikey does not want any part of Loma.

Just a few weeks ago Mikey was talking about going back down to fight Easter, but now the game has changed.

Mikey recently said 135 is probably best for him. Mikey prob won’t work with arum anytime soon and I rather him fight Easter than imam

Ive been saying this for many months already. I think a big reason Mikey left Top Rank is because he saw the writing on the wall that eventually he would have to face Loma or Crawford. He is now safely in protective custody fighting the lipinits broners and zlaticanins of the sport. 135 is perfect for Mikey, right in between crawford and Loma. Loma will move up eventually and I dont see crawford going anywhere so Mikey will eventually have to fight a real challenge. Hes name dropping spence lol what a joke

Mikey knows the fans will put pressure on him to face Loma once loma beats linares. Hes been saying in interviews how he feels stronger at 135 and wants to have a couple more fights there and unify with easter, now they announce the loma linares fight and he changes his tune and even robert garcia says now that loma linares is happening mikey will stay at 140. What a joke. I almost crapped myself when robert garcia said "you know how mikey like those tough fights" lmao
