That "style" was nothing new for Floyd. He's fought southpaws and a couple others that way. He shoots the same punches, but just holds his guard up and is a bit more aggressive vs. southpaws.
To the coach's credit, if he was mainly evaluating Mayweather based on recent fights (Berto, Pacman, Maidana) or fights where his opponents were bigger (DLH, Cotto, Canelo), he probably expected Floyd to fight cautiously.
However one thing many get wrong about Floyd is that he's a "runner". Floyd employs a lot of lateral movement, pulls straight back and ducks a lot. But he knows how to fight in the pocket, fight smart inside and tie up. When he needs to "sell out" a bit to get closer to a southpaw, he'll keep the guard up.
VS Pacman, I think in the opening round, he realized that Pacman was limited in how he could effectively attack Floyd and Floyd didn't want to take chances vs. the smaller fighter who's short and fast punches give him an inside fighting advantage.
Floyd has always said "I find a way to win." He doesn't say "I shut guys out flawlessly with speed and landing 100% of my punches" No, Floyd knows how to pace, accept some lost rounds, take some punches to the body, smother, just touch with some punches and be snappier with other punches, take breather rounds, mix up his attack, make his opponent tire themselves out while staying relaxed etc. in order to win fights vs tough opponents.
His opposition just focuses on the "idea" of Floyd's lack of power, that they forget he is a marathon runner while they're only thinking 100 meter dash. In the end, he gets the W, they spend the rest of their careers talking about how the first 100 meters was "easy, but I don't know what happened after that" or "not as hard as I expected" or "this is it?"...while Floyd says "I found a way to win and now I'm going to enjoy this victory"
Floyd played them all.

lol, of course you had to bring up Manny when your argument makes no sense in to what I was even stating.
I was referring to the fact that Jr. went on the offense in a way he has not done in years.
Manny's offense has still been there in flashes and greatly compared to Jr. We aren't talking about his inability to KO bigger guys in a weight class he doesn't belong.
