Never Realized How Dirty Ward Was Until Today

I want to start this off by saying, I'm a really big fan of Andre Ward. Great talent. Enjoyed watching him fight since I discivered him in the Super 6.

I will say, I do think he's been a bítch at times especially before he fought Kovalev. He said somehting like, and I'm paraphrasing here: So if I beat Kovalev, what's next? They're just going to put me in against guy that want to see me lose against.

I thought that was a bítch thing to say. Like, hey man --- you keep winning thats what you do.

Forget Goosen, he mishandled himself with the inactivity. But thats all fine and dandy because he came back and fought Kovalev and beat him solid 2x. I don't see how there is controversy in their first fight. I had it a clear 116-112 or somethng like that.

A poster here GhostofDempsey posted the below video today.

At first I'm like, 28 minutes hall naw. But I gave it a wack and I'll be damned --- Ward is dirty as fùck.

I absolutely despise holding and hitting. Holding/clinching is one thing, but to hit while doing it is completely something else.

I know Floyd uses his elbow to create distance, but Ward takes it to the next level with actual elbow strikes!!!

The headbutts, a lot of guys get accused of using their head and it's usually bullshít. But Ward spears his head very regularly.

The low blows, prior to today I thought a lot were borderline, but that video showed me a lot of tactics with low blows. He definitely used them to his advantage. Getting his positioning right so the ref is on the opponents back and out of view and etc.

He gets guys super frustrated by his dirty moves that they get taken out of their game.

So, the only logical question for me that I'm wrestling with is, how good was Ward really? Could he have beaten all of those guys if he fought clean?

Ward's a top notch fighter. You watch that video and it is hard to say he didn't get away with a lot of crap.

He's a great boxer, and will probably be remembered in the same breath as Hopkins, without the longevity. Everyone remembers that Hopkins was dirty, but vast majority of the poeple don't know what that means, how dirty, etc.

Exactly. And at the end of the day, it's a f.cking fight. Fighters have the option of getting dirty back. With greatness comes a TON of excuses from naysayers

You don't win an Olympic gold medal (especially in a weight class way above yours) without clean boxing skills. That's all I'm saying.
