    17-0 Beats Winky
    18-0 Beats Quartey
    20-0 Destroyed by Trinidad
    23-1 Destroyed by Hoya
    26-2 Destroyed by Mosley
    26-3 Destroyed by Mosley

    At that time the Mexican way of bringing up fighters slowly was still sort of active. Bring them up slow so your fighter gets seasoned properly.

    Even by todays modern standards, you're looking for a domestic title around 20 wins and maybe a world title around 25 wins.

    Vargas' career was over by 25 fights. Why would your handler put you in against Trinidad especially after what he did to Othe 96' olymic gold medal winner David Reid. Reid was winning then, BAM, perfect left hook that put him on ***** Street for the duration to his first lost at 14-0. Reid, another fighter they sent to the rows too early.

    They should have put him in with Trinidad at like 25-30 wins. 20-0, he wasn't ready for that challenge.

    Getting a Hoya fight 3 fights later, did his people not watch what Hoya was doing to fighters?

    Get knocked by Hoya, so lets send him in with Mosley who beats Oscar. What the fúck!

    Vargas was super tough and had great skills. I thnk if they brought him up slower he could have been an ATG.

        He is what is is. I think when you factor in his personality, it is hard to imagine a long, well thought-out career.

            Thats why fighters have handlers. Promoters, managers, etc to save them from themselves. Namsayin?

              Only way to change his trajectory is for him to duck certain guys. Wouldn't have worked. You could get him more fights, but not going to change his trajectory.

                not at all. he was a top fighter and wanted to fight another top fighter. everyone else is just babied and ducks and we have become conditioned to accept that as the norm. we can at least give the man respect even if he didnt earn as much moeny as some of these other cowards

                    Vargas sought out the best to be the best and I give him all the credit in the world for it, but in the end he decides who he wants to fight to measure his own greatness and I don't think any management would have swayed him otherwise.

                    On that note I loss so much respect for him for how he handled the Trinidad loss. He turned into the Donald ***** of excuse making (no pun intended ).
