i don't see how you can't lose respect for JLC. (which by the way has nothing to do with being mexican or any other race). but you can't defend that he ****ED over a ton of people. Not just the other fighter, Chico, but both camp's trainers, nutrionists, cutmen, everyone involved in the promotions, the casinos, I could go on and on. It's not like 2 guys just decided to show up at some empty warehouse and have the neighborhood watch a fight. lots of professional people who feed their families from getting the fight accomplished, from signing the contract to the final bell. it may seem trivial to the general public but the boxing commission knows this was a GIANT ****up.

but i still love watching him fight. =P

That's pathetic that you have 13 posters who didn't lose one bit of respect for Castillo.

Two straight fights he forfeited essentially, all because of bad weight management.

I like Castillo myself, but it's ok to criticize fighters you like to watch.

so why did his camp report that he would make weight?

why did he never call Corrales or anyone and say he wasn't going to make weight in order to make adjustments?

why did he even sign on for 135lbs?

why did he agree to the WBC's harsh penalties should he not make weight?

I only know one thing: COWARDICE

maybe he thaught he could make the weight?
maybe his trainers are at fault, for not taking care of it

i havent lost any respect for him at all. people are blowing this way out of proportion. the only thing that pisses me off is that he shouldnt have been even trying to fight at 135 anyway. hes been fighting there for so long he should have moved up a long ass time ago. thats the only reason im dissapointed in him. chico should have just tried to move up too, hes 6 ft and only 135 lbs? wtf is that? move up already got damm.

I think most people were rubbed the wrong way more by the Castillo camp's lack of candor than the fact that he failed to make weight. There had been several title fights plagued by weight issues before, none that I can recall erupted into a furor of the magnitude that we just saw.

Over the past month, there had been progress reports released by the Team Castillo, all of which were reassuring. Those assurances, however, became glaring misrepresentations at the weighing stand, made worse by a subsequent claim that Castillo tipped the scale at 137 on Thursday night; a claim that was received with disgust by some as it was viewed as another blatant attempt at deception.

One-up-manship is not only common in boxing, it is close to a requirement. Angelo Dundee admitted much later that he manipulated the schedule of the rematch between Duran and Leonard to give his man a leg-up, other handlers have done things less, similar or better.

It seems that when one practices one-up-manship, one has to do it with some finese and the next requirement is to see to it that one observes strictly the 11th Commandment: "Thou shalt not get caught doing it."

Note: this is not a justification of what the Castillo camp has done, rather, it is my view on why many reacted in the manner they did. They felt lied to, brazenly.

                  I think.

i lost respect for him, not a total loss of respect but enough to not stick up for him or give him any real kind of support.

he knew he couldn't make weight in the first place, and that whole thing with the weight advisor from the WBC, WTF was that! that prick had stated Castillo was right on track to make weight and was weighing Castillo ever two weeks or some **** like that. that dude ought to be fined as well for flase reports. something aint right when you got a represenative from the WBC who can't either tell the truth about Castillo's weight or cant weigh a guy properly.

either way castillo ****ed up big time, he ****ed himself royaly, he ****ed the fans, any chance at people thinking he's a mexican great or any chance of people caring about any kind of legacy of his. that and he has to pay people out the ass, and is never going to live this down........

he made his bed now he's going to have to lay in it!
