I can't say that I really loss respect for him, because I don't know if it was intentional. I'm disappointed the fight isn't going to happen ever again in this lifetime but if his body can't make the weight and refusing to fight would've ended up getting him sued, what's he suppose to do?
Yeah but they could have agreed to fight on a bigger weight in the rematch clause, why sign a fight in a division where you cant fight in, cant make weight?
Corrales never agreed to fight at 135. The contract was set for 135 lbs, where Corrales could defend his titles.
I just think Castillo rightfully got caught trying to make a weight he cannot make, and now he will pay the fine.
I agree, and on top of a healthy fine should be a lifetime ban, he tried to cheat the system twice now, buy his way out of the cheating, in order to give himself a better chance of defeating a guy who is 10 times more skilled than he is
I still have tremendous respect for his skills as a fighter but he definitely lost a lot of my respect, because 5lbs is not even close its almost like he didn't try. I've seen weighin's where guys REALLY struggle to make weight and I didn't get the same feeling with him. Look at the Corrales vs PBF weight-in pictures at 130lbs, Cotto vs Branco or Jorge Arce's last fight and you will see guys who drained to make weight. It was like Castillo wanted to fight strong and not drain himself hoping Corrales would still fight or not fight at all. All I'm sure about is that I dont hold have him on the same pedastal that I him on after his first Corrales vs Castillo fight
all very good points...5 lbs. over the limit proves he did not try to make weight ...you also make a good point that maybe he was thinking because corrales is such a proud fighter he would take the fight anyway like he did the 2nd. time ...i don't know how people say that castillo's body could not make weight anymore in the proffesion he has chosen cutting weight is one of the main sacrifices that has to be made alot of other guys struggle to make weight corrales, cotto, gatti ...but they all manage to make the weight and not disgrace the sport, how castillo has not only once but twice !!!!
the boxing media has asked him if weight would be a factor for literally months now. how does he happen to overlook a subject that is constantly being brought up?
this is not a fight taken on a one week notice, he's had a few months to prepare. if he hasn't been weighing himself regularly, he is just plain dumb.

and he said weight won't be a factor.
which is why he's losing ridiculous amounts of money. to think, he was so scared of Corrales and KNEW he couldn't win legitimately that he would rather lose his money than the trilogy. wow, Mexican pride is such a beautiful thing.
