To be fair to Lee, he admitted in an interview that Ali would crush him. But his worshipers don't want to hear that. There was money to be made after his death so he got godlike status.

He had a huge following as a screen star in Asia, and IIRC, for Enter the Dragon, became the highest paid actor in the world. Circumstances surrounding his death reinforced his celebrity with assassination conspiracies, infidelity, etc, but mainly his wife had the business sense to establish a Bruce Lee brand (through marketing deals and documentaries) after his passing to perpetuate the Legend.

The cult-like following is an apt description. When an ex-husband of Linda Lee wrote a biography (Unsettled Matters) theorizing the star as a doper (hash) and steroid user, the author received heat from rabid fans. It's the only book I've read that offers a critical, even-handed review of the Legend.

Connor truly is in a class of his own. The problem is that's the lowest class in boxing...

That book sounds interesting, especially going by the buthurt comments on amazon about insulting the late/great 'Sifu' Lee lol.

I don't even understand why taking steroids and smoking hash was a big deal, it's not like he was a professional athlete. I heard the same stuff and never really delved all that deeply into his life.
