Only if the boxers are ****** enough to drain themselves like that.

I realise it won't happen, and I understand the reason why, but I think that guys weighing in at 135 and stepping into the ring at 150 is disgusting.

I agree that it's pretty disgusting. But I think the problem was the weight draining was occuring on the day of the fight, which was much worse. Moving the weigh-in date wouldn't fix that, I don't think.

Castillo wants to fight but can't make the weight as mandated by CORRALES and his camp.
The weight was mandated by the sanctioning body, not Corrales's camp. It's the sanctioning body that sets the lightweight limit.

Then how in the world has he managed to make 4 title fights at 135 since June of 2004?

Well, steady legs and clear eyes, his responsiveness to the referee, the fervor with which he returned to the battle, combined with his performance after the second KD would seem to be pretty clear indicators of that.

I don't KNOW, but given his personality, and him feeling he was cheated by an extra 15 seconds in the previous fight, it's not a far stretch to suspect that he would feel justified in cheating in the second fight. It was a sure bet that Corrales wouldn't back out, so he could get his revenge KO.
Let's not forget his camp trying to cheat the scale by sticking a foot under it.

For this fight, he weighed in last week lighter than he weighed in today. Had he been trying to make weight, doesn't it naturally follow that he would have come in lighter today? That is, unless, he has plateau'd. If that's the case, it would have been his obligation to report that to the sanctioning body and avoid the drama today.

Perhaps it's not his fault, but there's really no proof in either direction, is there? Then again, he may have been hoping that Corrales's pride would force him to make this fight happen just like last time. I honestly don't think that Castillo cares about the titles at this point.

We're both free to suppose what we want. The difference is, I don't have an emotional stake in either fighter.

That's a question only a trained professional can answer. I can say that I'm pretty sure he was never a Rhodes Scholar, though.

See above. I don't like or dislike any one fighter more than any other. I just like fights.
And lastly, if he didn't do ****** **** like this the media wouldn't have the opportunity to rag him.

          To VB Martin:

I know what the lightweight limit is, stop skirting around the point. Corrales did not want to entertain fighting at a higher weight that might have prevented this. He insisted that Castillo make lightweight or there would be no fight.

Castillo cannot make lightweight anymore and what has happened today is the end result of his forcing his body to try and make the weight unnaturally for the last two years. It cannot be done any longer. Case closed.

Castillo fought with honor his whole career, beat the **** out of Corrales on two occasions and all of a sudden he's a coward?

Everything about that sounds as if it's full of ****.

A lot of people who call themselves boxing fans talk a lot about how they respect fighters but have no idea of the sacrifices a fighter makes and think they have the right to turn around and disrespect fighters at every turn when they have never walked a mile in their shoes.

All these bloodthirsty arseholes just wanted to see a fight and are upset because it's not happening now, because it can't happen. Castillo has lost the most out of everybody through this whole thing in terms of money and standing within the fan sector.

It's bad enough for him but I already see ignorant media trashing him already.

As far as this board goes, it's a real disappointment that what I figured were a lot of very educated fight fans has decided to show themselves to be no better than most other fight fans who only want to be entertained and could not give a **** for the welfare of the fighters involved.

The boxing media and boxing fans trashing Castillo for something that is pretty much beyond his control atthis point should be ashamed of themselves.

Castillo wanted the fight and tried to make the weight but it could not be done. The fans should get refunds and the writers can busy themselves writing the latest wave of gushy articles about Corrales.

Just don't make me laugh and say that Castillo was scared because if he has anyone's number out there, it's Corrales.

Your name belies any possibility that you might even entertain the idea of viewing this in an unbiased manner. There's really no point in continuing to talk to you about this.

Whatever man. I like Castillo just as I am sure you have fighters you like. I was signing in to this site at first and could not think of a username. Thought of Castillo first and there you have it. I do not have bias towards Castillo in anyway. If I thought he was wrong I would say so. Just say you can't be ****ing bothered to carry on because you can't deal with an opposing viewpoint and we'll say no more.
