Let me answer the question posed by this thread "Why is Mayweather the most hated fighter ever?" I believe that question is false and based on a false assumption.
Do you realise how hated Liston was going into the first Patterson fight? The guy was a formal criminal who represented the "bad black man"...so much so that the US President, JFK, got involved and personally invoked Patterson to beat Lliston "for America". Now that's hate.
Do you realise how hated Ali was from Liston II all the way to the end of his exile? The man had death threats, physical threats to his family and friends, he lived in a segregated society where even black people hated a black man not wanting to be drafted ... it took years of campaigning for that ****** attitude to change. Now that's hate.
Mayweather isn't even close to that. What he is however, is the most ridiculed fighter in history .People laugh at everything from his dress sense to is lack of intellect to his inability to read or articulate speech. And rightfully so because he puts himself out there to be there bad guy.
What I want to know is, why does it hurt your feelings?

Yes.
His story had no arc. Ali was 'humbled' (defeated) and had to rise again, which won some fans over and started him down the path of eventually becoming a beloved figure by fans. Same for Lewis, and any other bad boy/villain/heel persona in boxing. When someone wins nonstop in any sport, the fans react negatively because they feel that there must be some anti-competitive reason behind their constant winnings.
Floyd was never taken down a peg, and the fans are forever going to hate him for it.Last edited by paulf; 07-24-2017, 04:09 PM.
