Comments Thread For: Sergey Kovalev Eyes New Trainer, Move To New Weight Class

Former light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (30-2, 26 KOs) is looking to make some big changes after losing for the second time to Andre Ward. Ward (32-0, 16 KOs) won a close twelve round decision over Kovalev last November in Las Vegas, but in their rematch, which took place two weeks ago, he stopped the Russian puncher in eight rounds to retain the IBF, WBA, IBO light heavyweight titles.

    No surprise with either.

Also helps support "excuses" for Ward loss.

I may not like Kov but these are the exact comments a professional should have. Accept what happened and move forward and stop dwelling on the past.

        Danny Jacobs should take note.

Wow, so I wonder if there were some truth to his trainer wanting to come to Team Ward side..... But now it's Kov who wants to join the team. I would like to see him move up, but I hate that him and Stevenson didn't get in the ring together. Seems like Kov just admitted that Ward is better than him.

Kov didn't mention nothing about low blows, he said he diminished.

If the guy isn't willing to listen, he can't really be helped, if he's willing to do whatever the proper trainer tells him, he can advance.

Well Kovalev giving begrudging props to Ward but he is doing it. Good on him for that.

Would like to see him come back, not sure if trainer or weight is really the issue.

That's exactly what he did. It was plain to see when he was looking for a way out of the fight. It takes a lot to admit that.

I like what he brings to the table as a fighter. Virgil could do good things with him. But it seems we're nearing the last days of his career.
