Kovalev was looking for a way out and found it. tony weeks has a history of stopping fights this way. look at corrales/castillo as soon as castillo looked like a lifeless punching bag he stopped it but when corrales was getting beat to death he let it continue because corrales was punching back. kovalev was literally sitting on the ropes in the fetal position like a straight hoe, not punching back at all. and that was after the right hand folded him. he never got his legs back. weeks did the right thing.
and guess what kovalev didn't protest because he got what he wanted. he was done. andre was gonna slaughter him and already by round four Kovalev was breathing heavy. he was finished.
now if smoger was the ref Kovalev would've most likely left the ring unconscious. tony weeks saved him.

I'm being objective honest and fair. I realize everything that happened.
I'm a fan of the sport and I want to see the right thing happen. Since Saturday night there have been differing opinions, debates, disagreements on how the fight was stopped when this all could have been avoided. Again, we should have been talking about Ward's epic victory, performance, etc....not debating, disagreeing about if the ending of the fight was legitimate, controversial, etc...
Boxing, the fans, Ward and Kovalev deserved to have that fight end in emphatic clear fashion to avoid what has been going on since Saturday night with the disputies and disagreeing on the fight ending.
As a fan of boxing or any sport I want to see the right calls made, the right thing happen.
The last blow to end the fight was clearly a low blow. No fan in boxing wants to see a fight waved off after that.
I know Kovalev was on the verge of getting knocked out. Then let him get knocked out instead of prematurely stopping a fight.
If Kovalev was on the verge of knocking Ward out and Ward got hit with a clear low blow then the ref comes in and stops the fight, I would say the same thing. And you know a bunch of fans would have been going off on Kovalev saying he fought dirty, Ward wasn't given a chance to recover, how can they end the fight on a low blow, blah, blah, blah.
If people look at it from a non biased objective point of view and what is good for the sport then they would not agree with a fight getting waved off from the last punch being a clear low blow.
That's just being real and honest about it.
Ward deserved to win in clear emphatic fashion to avoid any questioning of how the fight was stopped.
This is how I feel about it. Whoever feels different, well we can agree to disagree. I'm good with that.
As for how clear the win was or wasn't. Let them announce an immediate rematch, and see how many people have no interest in it. That's because Ward clearly established himself as the superior fighter. Doesn't get any clearer than that.

Thats not the same sequence. This is absolutely low.

The last punch was low I agree. But prior to that Kovalev was bending over looking for a way out from punches that were clearly not low.

If he wasn't hurt from the legal body shot that had him doubled over. He should have stood up and fought. Instead of laying there hoping the ref would save him.

Duh, I get it. Seems like you did not read my post or are just on a one track way of thinking.
I already made my points. That's what I feel about it. I know Ward showed he's the better fighter in the rematch and did I ask for a 3rd fight? I don't want to see it. I already said Ward was on his way to winning most likely by KO. I already made my points and expressed my views. You're just on a one track way of thinking. No one is going to change my view on what happened. I'm as objective, honest and fair as they come. If one doesn't comprehend what I'm saying, cool. For those that don't agree, well we can agree to disagree. I'm good with that.Last edited by The Time; 06-19-2017, 12:22 PM.

It's clear it would be very hard for him to recieve a decision or a fair shake fighting ward in America, to be sure. So many flitting temporary ward "fans" popping up around when he fights. It's really you who is undefeated, sharing in these "wins," beating the formidable russian. P4p fanboys with your superior bias and ability to live vicariously. pathetic jokes...

If I'm Ward I'm PISSED that the ref robbed me of a no questions asked beating. Kovalev was gassed, and if he didn't get finished in that same round he was going to get thoroughly beaten up or stopped to end this once and for all. Now, Kovalev gets to ***** about this because anyone with a fair eye can see it was stopped very early. Like Paulie said, it was like the ref was just looking for any reason to stop the fight. Not Ward's fault. He made the improvements and this was going to be his fight, but you don't stop it like that. Not on this level.
