Boxing is not popular in Russia that they dont even get airtime? Always thought that boxing was big over there.

There's no money in boxing in Russia? Is everyone illegally streaming or something? Everyone broke? No one really likes boxing there?

Seems like it'd be popular there.

Di Bella & Wilder took a lot of his money. Throw in the legal fees then the situation gets worse. He'll continue to 'fund' Boxing but not on a multi million pound scale, that I guarantee.

          Isn't he a billionaire?

How much did DiBella & Wilder win? Wasn't that like $2M-$5M? Is that what this is really about?

          F#cking Povetkin.

Around $5m if I read correctly. That's definitely not including his legal costs.

Then you've got Povetkin failing more recently. Must be a proper kick in the balls. More money wasted on purses & all the expenses related to hosting the event.

He's a Billionaire but if he keeps spending millions backing drips like Povetkin, he'd be f'd.

There's nothing similar to ppv system in Russia to make boxing profitable over there, viewers are not used to pay for anything, they'd better stream it illegally. They have to come up with some other way to make money off boxing in Russia, the way that would be more suitable for this environment, and that's a hell of a task. It's not like boxing fanbase doesn't have money to pay here, they have it but they're not used to spend it on viewership, ppv system would be the new thing here

Boxing in Russia doesn't have same business options like boxing in States or UK, despite a great talent pool here. You have a fighter like Daniyar Yeleusinov from Kazakhstan (I don't make the difference between Russia and Kazakhstan because all ex-Soviet countries are the same from social and cultural points of view) gold medalist and he's Lomachenko-esque talent, I'm serious - he's that good. Russian and Kazakhstan boxing fans were excited to hear that he was planning to turn pro. And he still can't get a good offer from any promoters to this day, he's wasting his prime years and thinking about going back to amateurs. And we talk about special talent now. Countries like UK or US are able to give better opportunities to their pro fighters, these countries wouldn't let their gold medalists to waste the talent like that, that's why he says that pro boxing is dead over here

So is this the beginning of the end of the big pro boxing events in Russia? I can imagine that most russian figthers will fight on US or UK television networks from now on. This clearly indicates that there are no really big money in russian boxing.

Do you think he was losing money on those big shows like this one () then? I noticed that the Kudryashov show today has a much lighter (therefore cheaper) undercard

Undoubtedly it's hard to be competitive with international promotions without the PPV model or subscription channels like HBO and Sky Sports. You can't be paying fighters millions of dollars with just ticket sales and free TV propping you up

I think those big russians shows are going down. They usually brings over Africans and South Americans for cheap purses.
I think there will be more shows in the US with russian fighters on the card.
The money for boxing is simply not there in Russia.
I also think MMA already is or will soon be bigger than boxing in Russia
