Boxing in Russia doesn't have same business options like boxing in States or UK, despite a great talent pool here. You have a fighter like Daniyar Yeleusinov from Kazakhstan (I don't make the difference between Russia and Kazakhstan because all ex-Soviet countries are the same from social and cultural points of view) gold medalist and he's Lomachenko-esque talent, I'm serious - he's that good. Russian and Kazakhstan boxing fans were excited to hear that he was planning to turn pro. And he still can't get a good offer from any promoters to this day, he's wasting his prime years and thinking about going back to amateurs. And we talk about special talent now. Countries like UK or US are able to give better opportunities to their pro fighters, these countries wouldn't let their gold medalists to waste the talent like that, that's why he says that pro boxing is dead over here
Wtf. Thats nuts. And I guess thats why all these crazy talented Russian & "ex-soviet countries" boxers (I like that term better, Eastern Euro sounds weird to me in that context & "Russian states" my previous preferred term gets that regions people freaking out on me when I'm just trying to nail down a term for that region that covers non-Russians lol) are coming to the US where they will never be as popular as they could be at home.

Can't they make money the old fashion way there by selling tickets to events & PPVing the big stuff to other countries eventually? I just watched a MMA card from Poland last week from a fairly new-ish MMA league (5 or less years iirc) that had 58k people in attendance (2nd biggest MMA event ever) + were doing there first PPV fight all on the backs of a Polish heavy card with a few passed over by UFC/Bellator/etc leagues non-Polish fighters. That seems like something they could eventually do in Russia or ex-Soviet countries with the right promotion + putting together strong base of fighters. Idk about their Polish TV setup previous to this card doe. They might have a nice deal with that that helped grow them to the point they reached last week.

Undoubtedly it's hard to be competitive with international promotions without the PPV model or subscription channels like HBO and Sky Sports. You can't be paying fighters millions of dollars with just ticket sales and free TV propping you up
These russian cards lately were on fire lol. Always putting their guys in tough bouts. Lebedev, Indongo, Troyanovsky all lost that evening.

Dont think there will be any major big fights in Russia anytime soon. No wonder that no American or a fighter with an television deal that has fought in Russia. The money is simply not there. More money in the USA, UK and Germany. I even think that fighters that fight in Japan as visitors makes more money.
