This is why Canelo is becoming my least favorite fighter. Why is he talking Mayweather/Pacquiao when he's about to put on a H.S. after school fight with Chavez? Which new fan is expecting to gain by fighting Chavez when the fact that Junior made weight has been the most intriguing thing about this match up. PPV is hurting because there really isn't any interesting personalities in the sport right now and there is huge competition from the UFC. The most talented boxer is resorting to dressing up in kiddie costumes and clowning in the ring to generate some interest in himself.

The only fights that should've been PPV were Canelo vs. Cotto and Joshua vs. Klitschko. And both of those fights were a success. May vs. Pac didn't hurt PPV. Promoters putting any and everything on PPV hurt PPV.

It did. It's really that simple 4 million plus PPV buys and the fight wasn't action packed. It was just a typical schooling with nary an exciting moment. PPV have fallen precipitously since. It was built up to be bigger than the f**king superbowl, I mean the whole world was watching...and for that??

I've heard Floyd fans say that people just thought it was boring because Floyd won and that all of the Floyd haters were butthurt, but no. A good fight is a good fight. And that was a f**king horrific "fight". It was basically light sparring for 12 rounds without a a single memorable or dramatic moment in the fight, unless you count the time Manny stunned Floyd and unleashed a barrage of mostly missed or blocked punches.

And yes, I get it, anybody who knows Floyd at all knew that he's a defensive fighter to the millionth degree, and it was never going to be a firefight, that much is true but still.

Both fighters exited the ring with career lows in punches landed. From just a pure entertainment perspective it was awful. It was beyond awful.

I will say this, though. I do think that the onus was on Manny. It was. We all know that Floyd is safety first, defense first at all times. Floyd could give two ****s about making it entertaining for the fans so long as he's winning the fight. So it was up to Manny to bring the fight out of him, and as we all saw, he couldn't do it. So yeah in the end the bulk of the blame goes to Manny.

But my God what a travesty of a fight. Ask any fan out there who didn't have a dog in the race and they'll tell you that **** was as entertaining as watching paint dry.

I agree with every single world but as one of Floyd's biggest fans **** THAT with that many people watching you needed to do more. He more aggressive and try harder to make an entertaining bout. That was the first time I've ever seen Floyd fight not to lose instead of fighting to win. He gets blame as well. Look what has happened because that fight ******? The PPV market has almost dried up.

I agree with cvntnelo. that **** tanked the ppv market.

This is completely inconsistent with the historical data on boxing PPV'S. Just look it up and stop trolling. A simple Google search of "pay per view", click on the Wikipedia page and view the boxing figures. The PPV market is currently performing normally. Tyson, Oscar, Floyd, and Manny were the exceptions. There are maybe 10 fights not including these four that cracked 1 million buys. Everything else is pretty normal ( 300 - 400k is probably the historical average just eye balling it).

It was definitely a missed opportunity, but it didn't kill the PPV market. (See my other posts)

No, the bulk on the blame goes on Mayweather. He was the guy who refused to engage whatsoever, and like you said, couldn't give two ****s about making it entertaining.

Pac was a massive disappointment but I am baffled why all of Floyd's opponents get blamed for not making him less boring. How about Mayweather is less boring himself? Why does the blame always fall on Floyd's opponents? It's such bizarre thinking. It's not easy to make a guy with all the advantages who knows how to game the system and win rounds with "ring generalship" do anything other than be risk-averse.

Mayweather stunk the joint out like he did several PPVs and it's no coincidence that boxing is kicking ass this year, like it did during his other fake retirement years. Good riddance to that dude.

Nobody asks Tom Brady not to throw the ball, and come out running the option. Nobody asks LeBron James to not drive the ball and overpower his opponents. Nobody asks the Alabama football team to come out running a speed offense. And not take advantage of their power running game in defense. Yet we asks defensive fighters to come out and fight Arturo Gatti. Its not Floyd, or any other defensive fighter's job to come out and help his opponent be competitive. The fact is, you can force him outta his shell if you put pressure on him, and willing to eat the counter attack thats coming back. Chino did it in their first fight. Cotto did it. So it can be done. Manny opted to sit back, and accept Floyd occasionally pot shoting him from a distance and doing just enough to win rounds. Because Manny didn't wanna eat the counters that were coming back. Its as simple as that. That's a Manny problem. Not a Floyd problem.
