Comments Thread For: Mikey Garcia: Crawford, Pacquiao Are The Fights I Want!

In January 2014, Mikey Garcia (36-0, 30 KOs) was considered by many to be one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the sport. His career took an unexpected turn when he sued Top Rank to break his promotional agreement. After two years of litigation, Garcia and Top Rank reached a settlement to part ways. Garcia didn't fight again until July of 2016, when he entered the ring at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and stopped Elio Rojas in a Showtime televised fight.

The only one that truely deserves the Pacman fight is Thurman.

Would Bob and Top Rank want to work with him after him breaking the contract?

Hold on. So mikey is calling out all the top rank fighters now after leaving top rank? Sounds like a duck to me.

I don't really get Mikey, he was going to be groomed as the next big star by Bob arum, had him having great winnable fights and was being groomed to be a potential oppnent of Pacquiao, then he breaks the contract and wants to fight Top rank fighters again,.

He (and likely his family) were upset about the money split. Top Rank takes more than he was willing to accept. Some of this was addressed in the GBP - Haymon litigation. Apparently TR has "management fees" that result in a higher take home for the company. With Haymon he's likely not even paying a fee at all (this was also addressed in the opinion). When you consider the purse sizes, it makes a big difference. Not sure it'll workout for him, but the money matters when you think about where he's at in his career. He could have 2-3 PPV caliber fights coming in the next year.

Pacquiao was okay with it, and now he is worth more than a hundred million dollars worth in properties and cash along with the endorsements he got in his home country and other foreign countries. If Bob Arum makes you a star at the highest possible gain with some loss, its better that way rather than being sat on the table once you lost a high profile fight.

This is why being a free agent is important.

                    Linares
                    Flanagan
                    Lomachenko
                    Broner
                    Crawford
                    Pacquiao

His options are limitless. Legacy fights, money fights, and fan friendly fights are there for mikey.
