NO HE CAN'T AND HE SAID SO HIMSELF!
With all due respect to Virgil and his accolades but he's talking straight out of his @zz on this one. You can't say he can make it when the man himself said he struggled to maked 172 for his debut at LHW. I know it's cool to name drop and be salty (Virgil did help Jacobs) but mofo's take this and run with it like it means something. When a boxer themselves says "I Can't" he can't and he knows his body better than anyone else. Would we love to see it? Hell Yeah! But it ain't happening at 168.

But nobody wanted him to wait around beating up super middleweight beltholders hoping GGG would eventually fight him. All that mattered was a big fight. So if he had to move up and lose, so be it.

As funny as it is to make fun of scared fighters and scared fans, it is worth pointing out that it would be unusual to expect a fighter to take this level of risk.
I think Ward is the better boxer and even if you dont, he is clearly the naturally larger. No question in my mind that he'd be favored in the books. I don't think Ward having to move back down to 168 sufficiently offsets the risk associated with fighting someone this much bigger (in this case).
If GGG wants the fight then whatever but I don't think I'd make this fight if I were managing his career.

Ain't nobody paying ward $5 million a fight to face those guys, not even Haymon is that wasteful. You wanna go back and pull on the quotes of Ward complaining about not being paid his worth? I respect Ward as an athlete but let's not pretend like this isn't the retirement fund run. At least let's not muddy up the waters misrepresenting motives.
