I'm not talking about people who frequent forums like this. I mean people who literally have no clue about either sport but tune in to McGregor fights.

Like I said a while back, if this fight gets announced and anticipated it shows the gullibility of the modern, celeb oriented sports fan. Anyone who even has an inkling of boxing knowledge knows this fight is worse than May v Baldomir.
Plus labeling it the billion dollar fight is hilarious. Investors are going to lose big money on this one if they put in the May/Pac sort of money.

As a Conor fan and Floyd hater, I have no interest in seeing Conor get Arturo Gatti'ed in a boxing ring by Floyd. In the octagon, the exact opposite would happen - McGregor would destroy Mayweather, and probably do so in only a round - but this wouldn't take place in the octagon, it would take place in the boxing ring, and that's Floyd's domain. He has no probable chance of winning there, and it would be considered highly impressive if he even went the distance or won a single round against Mayweather in a boxing match.
Of course it's possible that Conor shocks the world and pulls out arguably the biggest upset of all time by knocking out Mayweather... But it's one of those things so astronomically unlikely that there's no real reason to think it would happen. I'd much rather see Conor focus his time and energy on his MMA/UFC career than waste time trying to outbox people who have been doing it their whole lives. Likewise, if Floyd returns, I'd prefer to see him fight an actual boxer instead of someone from a completely different sport.
The sooner we move on from this farce, the better.
