meanwhile a guy accused of being "boring" for half his career happens to be the richest boxer to ever do it.. it's not about boring or exciting, it's about charisma..having a personality that draws fans to you, whether to admire or critique you..to cheer you on or laugh at your pain... Adrien Broner on PPV would outsell Ward, Kovalev and Golovkin. because mofos would pay big money to see him get laid out.

He had a solid Asian American/Fillipinos fanbase who could relate to him (potential fanbase of Russian emmigrants in America who could relate to Kovalev would be much smaller) plus Pac defeated boxing superstar like De La Hoya and plenty of Mexicans with solid fanbase and his rivalry with the other superstar Floyd was easy to promote

Fighters from other countries doesn't have the same fanbase in America to rely on

I think my biggest issue with all that is I think Kovalev was desperate enough when he signed with Duva that he gots baby elephant syndrome & would do anything Duva asked of him including trying to be promoted in a more classic way that requires him to be a more humble & respectful guy then he actual is. And if he was more allowed to be himself it'd actually benefit him more & put him on better after boxing than anything Duva has or could do for him.

They should have gone full heel with Kov. I think since the fights ended people realize it's not that far of a stretch
That special that was made was like exhibit A in my this promotion ****** stance. Not to say it wasn't a good piece of work that I didn't enjoy cuz I thought it was quality viewing & I personally enjoyed it, but it was not a good promotional tool to encourage or entice people in to wanting to see these two guys who didn't know or barely knew who either guy was. In fact the whole premise of the piece seemed to wanna make out both guys as good guys who have some very similar aspects to their background despite their growing up in entirely different environments & countries, Neither guy stood out as an interesting personality that you'd wanna see win & neither guy stood as a villain you'd wanna see lose. Hell I was kinda hoping for a draw after watching that lil doc. I think you need some aspect of personality or good vs bad to sell boxing in this era & there was none of that in this fight, there was no attempt to create that sorta spin in this fight. Thus 165,000 PPV buys is the outcome which is probably the same amount of people who'd have bought the fight if didn't do any marketing for the fight.

And from many 3rd party accounts Kovalev seems like a bit of an ******* & I don't believe Main Events wants that to be the story. More importantly they don't grasp how that could ultimately work out better for Kovalev & themselves in the business of boxing if he was just his natural kinda an ******* self. The ******* is an underutilized role in boxing.
