Firstly, if is overrated now, but wasnt before the fight then this means that everyone's view has changed.

Who here thinks that Hatton cant beat the people we said he could beat before the Collazo fight... Because I know for sure that he will still beat Corrales, he will kill Gatti, he will annihilate Cotto, he will beat Castillo but thats a tough one, and Mayweather is 50/50 like we all said before.

Just because he half-won a fight with a guy who was a stylistic nightmare for him, does not mean all of a sudden he will lose to the rest of those guys... **** man, the inconsistency of opinion round here is just amazing. I swear half this board has just jumped on a whole new bandwagon now... and then when Hatton wins convincingly it will be "oh, Hatton is the best".

If your gonna start judging boxers, stick by your damn principles. If you thought boxer A had skills before a fight, dont change your opinion on one fight... And lets face it, 90% of this board recognised he had skills. So why the sudden change? He boxes for half hour and you guys are like "Robbery" "Overrated!".

Hatton beats most of them out there, with trouble against Caastillo and Mayweather due to different things. We all knew this before. Now get off the bandwagon.

    Overrated? I think not.
Cannot agree more, so Hatton had an off night, so what?

He stepped up a weight, fought a legit world champion in his back yard and toughed out a result!

It wasn't great but that doesn't make him a bad fighter over night, its shows he can fight poor but win, all fighters have these blips along the way, after all they are human like the rest of us!

It never ceases to amaze me on the complete lack of boxing knowledge from some on this site, if Mayweather has a poor fight next time out does that then make him overrated???

Styles make fights, we all know that don't we? Hatton doesn't do well with southpaws, add into that the new weight, venue, and the probability that Collazo is actually a very good fighter and its easy to understand how this fight turned out, Hatton still won albeit poorly but the next fight will be different believe me!

Exactly, alot of people on this site really don't know **** about the sport. ' Hattons overrated etc etc ' what a load of bull****..they judge him from one ****in fight and it's sad, their lack of boxing knowledge really shows. Give him a couple more fights at 147 and then judge..but from one fight? sort it out.

Same thing happened with the KT fight...

All of a sudden Hatton was straight out of the WWF (wrestling ****) because of how he adapted to KT's massive straight right by getting on the inside and also minimalising any threats to himself by holding...

Its so ******. It needed Calzaghe to win every single ****ing round against Lacy for people on these boards to just shut up. In fact if I recall correctly, people were still making excuses even then! It really does say a lot about the bias of the people on these boards.

I dont have a problem accepting American fighters, if I think they are genuine fighters. It seems that some Americans on here really cant face that there are some fighters with potential outside of their own country. For instance Lacy was the best thing since sliced bread, and Calzaghe was a bum...

Having said all that there are at least a dozen American posters here who know how to remove bias, and generally those are the ones who have been watching boxing for a number of years... Oh also, we have 2tough, and he thinks that anything outside of Britain is ****. He told me Klitchsko ducked Danny Williams... so what im saying is there are biased people on this side of the pond too, but generally its the Americans here..

Oh yeah Ricky Hatton - 2 Weight Champ. Recognizzzze.

Give or take Cotto, who I think is suspect to Hattons style.

overated how?i think he is good but not in the same league as odh or mayweather - he did well to get the decision against a southpaw who he has trouble against as do other fighters

              A bit worrying

As a Brit who has supported Hatton throughout his career the thing that struck me was how Hatton seemed a) a bit sluggish compared to normal b) seem to tire quicker than normal c) how his punches lacked effect. There are no excuses in this game, but that is how he looked compared to what I am used to seeing.

I was impressed by Collazo, he had fast hands and good movement. For what it is worth I had it for Hatton by 1 point - with a lot of close rounds. Hatton pressed forward, Collazo had cleaner punches - but I wouldn't argue the toss either way on the result and understand why others have it the other way. Given Hatton was the challenger away from home I was pleasantly surprised that he got the result on the scorecards in such a close fight.

A slick southpaw was a bad fight for Hatton to go for (remember Eamonn Magee dropping Hatton in the past??), I reckon his camp thought he would tear through Collazo, but his punches just didn't have the same effect as normal - he hardly got any of his usual body punches in and couldn't see Collazo's right hook all night, he is very lucky Collazo isn't a big puncher.

Hatton looked worried and was right to be, I think the truth is one of three options:
              1) either Collazo is a lot better than I thought
              2) or Hatton isn't right at welter yet and needs more time
              3) or Hatton has some limitations against the very best at welter that will never be sorted with time

I'm glad he survived, he showed fantastic heart when things weren't going his way, but that fight ended up being a 50/50 toss of a coin, where the flash knockdown in the first came in very handy indeed.

Only Hatton knows the answers, he said he would give Collazo a rematch, but unless he can get much stronger at the weight and work out a way past Collazo's great defence then he should avoid that rematch like the plague.

wont say he is overrated, but he is vunerable. i do know one thing, if he stays at 147 he will have lots of fights with this level of difficulty.

                  Welcome to BoxingScene, good post.

You know what I think it is... I think its all those weights he has introduced into his regime. Trust me, they are doing him no good... The explosiveness is gone like you said. Weights have to be done properly, like how little Amir is doing them. Rickys camp arent getting that right...

A whole load of other factors come in but I believe that is the main one. Also:
                  - Not home ground.
                  - Southpaw. But not any old Southpaw. A southpaw with skills.
                  - Needed to impress.
                  - Went for the kill after the KD which tired him...

Either way hes not overrated, and anyone who thinks he is are just armchair fans. The type that would support whoever is top of the league in football or whatever.
