    You can't blame Rooney, he was just trying to keep Mike at a high level.
    This is how he trained when Cus was alive, and this is how he trained to get to the title...things started to slide after he won the title and felt a sense of accomplishment, at least it seems that way.

    Guys like Tyson need to train that way because of their style and attributes, like height...Frazier trained the same way, you never heard Joe complain, why? because he loved that ****.

    Tyson would have only been able to train and fight like that until he was no more than 32, and that is pushing it...he is like a Running Back in the NFL.
    i disagree that tyson had to train that hard in 88 when tyson knocked out spinks he proved he was head shoulders above everyone in the division . i am not saying tyson should of abandoned his peek a boo style but he did have to kill himself in the gym the likes of bruno, ruddock , willams, stewart, or who ever .

            i am aware of that but what i am saying is that mike could of decided to train less with rooney and still retain his boxing skills and the peek a boo style . mike after he left rooney still trained pretty hard in the gym its just that he didnt bother useing his bocking skills and head movement and just looked for one shot .

                You don't get it Catskills, in order for Mike to fight like that he NEEDED to train with that kind of intensity. The peekaboo style requires great reflexes and conditioning, which can only be obtained by constant drilling and physical training throughout the day. It wasn't just losing Rooney that did him in as a fighter, but a growing lack of discipline. If Rooney and Cus didn't push him so hard, he never would have been as good as he was.

                  Well, that's not the reason that was reported at the time Tyson did fire Rooney, as various sources claim that it was because Rooney tried to get too involved in his personal & business life and also said some things about Tyson's personal life to the media that Mike wasn't too happy with...particularily Rooney publicly supporting Givens & her mother during that time, and sort of taking their side during that whole breakup.

                  Rooney also pubicly voiced his displeasure over Tyson signing an exclusive contract with Don King, who Rooney did not think much of as a person and businessman.

                  Some quick quotes;

                  "Tyson was reported to have been piqued by what he saw as Rooney's intrusion into his business and personal lives." - NY Times, Dec 10th, 1988

                  "Kevin has not been as supportive of Mike Tyson as we had hoped he would have been. His comments have tended to harm Tyson's image and he should have seen the ultimate result coming." so said Tyson's lawyer at the time of the firing, Howard Weitzman

                  "Tyson decides to part company with the man many had considered as close to him as a brother after Rooney remarks to reporters that it would be a 'good idea' if Tyson began dating his estranged wife. The champion is also irate that Rooney mentions his wife's mother, Ruth Roper. Rooney has also been outspoken about Tyson's involvement with Don King." - so says Tyson's first & longtime biographer, Reg Gutteridge

                    I think one of the points was acutally from Bill Cayton, if I am not mistaken, there was talk of needing Tyson to be and stay more stable, so what is the solution in a lot of men's life, Marriage...a married man isn't supposed to go out cheating on his wife, drinking, partying late, etc. A Married man is supposed to handle his buisness and go home.

                    Now I am not so sure that Robbin Givens is who they wanted since Cayton didn't seem to like here much

                      exactly, tyson needed to train like an animal to maintain that level, to be the best you have to work harder than everybody else, jordan didn't stop practicing because he won 1 title, it made him work that much harder.
