I dont think that chasing KO is the right strategy against Ward.

Sergey pretty much had a great strategy. He needs to rectify a few things (stop wrestle and not engage in clinches). Keep Ward at distance as much as possible. Ward cant match him unless he is allowed to clinch for a long time.

If he feels he cannot get a decision, it'll be interesting to see if he goes all out for the KO. It will make for a much more entertaining fight if this happens.

As an objective fan, did you see Kov clinching as well in attempt to negate Ward's body punching? I saw a fair amount of clinching and wrestling from both fighters.......

yeah kov tried to clinch ward in response because ward likes to clinch then throw punches off the clinch which is illegal but the ref never did anything about it. i dont know where in the rules it says clinching is ok if you throw punches after clinching. its just wrestling. ward couldn't match kovalev in boxing so he clinched in order to prevent kov from hitting him, then manuevered himself so he could throw that "body work" now that manuevering takes skill but unfortunately its not legal because this is not wrestling its boxing.

Well if the judges next time plan on cooking up a similar BS decision, he will have to knock him out to be sure of coming out on top. Or make sure he wins every round without a shadow of doubt. So throwing caution to the wind seems to be the best solution.

No, it's not. I agree. Nor do I think Ward standing at the end of Kovalev's range was wise. But, it made a hell of a fight when they were doing it. As a fight fan, I want to see them take those chances. If they each fight a smart fight (the type of fight I would want to see them fight as a fan of each guy) it will be pretty damn boring.

Also, the knockdown was only a flash knockdown since it came from a right palm strike more than a straight right.

I mentioned he was going to get schooled and Kov gets schooled even harder on the second fight.

This is how boxing corruption ****s up everything. Now Kovalev feels he can't just school Ward the way he did the first fight, now he feels like the judges will screw him no matter what, so he has to push for a knockout, which may play into Ward's hands. Everything was set up for Ward to win and he still lost.

By the way you act like Ward got caught once with a fluke punch and nothing else happened. You didn't see Ward stumbling from a jab in one round? Then he bullrushed Kovalev and grabbed him, and the ref took 10 seconds to break them, and then held Kovalev back another 5 seconds and warned him to give Ward more time.

Seriously just watch it, and tell me the ref wasn't in Ward's corner from round 1 trying to give him more time to recover.

RJJ also said Kovalev hurt him in the 12th to the body. So Ward gets hurt in 25% of the rounds even with the ref helping him, but you try to downplay it to one flash knockdown. Typical Ward fan hypocrisy. 8-4 Kovalev.
Couldn't agree more. And yes the ref was uncharacteristically biased. Even his facial expressions and body language spelled it right out for all to see.

Kov always kos opponents. Its a shame when kov decides he wants to outpoint an opponent for a change the judges hgave other ideas.

Kov shouldn't have to ko everyone. Kov shouldn't have to worry judges won't give him fair deal! Kov has every right to win decisions like fkloyd, ward and every other feather fiusted fighter out there

I thought punching until the ref broke the action was allowed. If a fighter is able to get an arm free, why can't he punch? As a general rule I thought the only time a ref was supposed to break a clinch is if both arms were trapped or tied up.
