man I still don't know about the result.. I was rooting for Ward and gave him the close rounds even when he was being outlanded and controlled. I had Ward up by 1 point but I felt like that would've been the worst possible way the judges could have it for Kovalev if they gave Ward every round where he wasn't getting embarassed.. Kovalev definitely deserves a rematch..
was too amped to even really focus on scoring the fight
From the feel of it though (D&B was definitely a tough place to catch the fight), Kovalev won the first two rounds, Rounds 3-5 were nip/tuck rounds that could go either way, and Ward's seeming ability to neutralize Kovalev's activity (while also landing his own clean shots and keeping the pressure up on the inside) felt like he basically edged 6-12.
1. Kovalev 10-9
2. Kovalev 10-8
3. Kovalev 10-9
4. Ward 10-9, maybe 10-10
5. Ward 10-9 - first minute of the round, Ward lands a punishing body shot that spun Kovalev around followed by a check left hook. Another left hook at the 1:44 mark. Ward also lands a crisp jab. At the 1:30 mark, Kovalev hasn't landed anything. Kovalev lands first jab at the :35 second mark. Ward retaliates with his own head snapping jab at the :33 second mark. Ward lands another hard jab at the :20 second mark.
6. Ward 10-9
7. Ward 10-9
8. Ward 10-9
9. Ward 10-9
10. Ward 10-9
11. Ward 10-9
12. Ward 10-9
Please let me know if you need me to break down any other rounds you thought were close. After the 4th, I thought it was all Ward
the thread completely exposed those who's screaming robbery.....also it's amazing that none of these "robbery" fans are posting their round by round card. the problem is the judges actually had it right which is surprising when even i sat down and scored it. for as much as they were bashed, when u sit down get a pin and paper you are ether gonna have ward up by 2 points or 1 point. this was indeed a andre ward win.....HBO and fanboyism clouded the peoples minds last night. i challenge anyone to sit down and score the fight with a pin a paper and even you will see that the fight was 1 or 2 points for ward. kovalov just simply let the fight slip away from him......maybe it was the miscommunication with his trainer. could be the tough wind body shots. for what ever reason he let that fight slip away & ward is indeed the true light heavyweight champ. not even CLOSE to a robbery.
