I can naturally understand Kathy Duva's emotional state over Sergey Kovalev's loss to Andre Ward but to blame the referee because of it, is just not only misguided but also copping out and simply wrong. The referee did his job just fine. He admonished both guys for the rough stuff but especially Andre Ward.
At least from my viewpoint, it was her own fighter who was initiating most of the rough stuff, in there and not Andre Ward. Andre never got the chance to get on the inside of Sergey. He fought him exclusively from the outside because Kovalev was so strong as he was able to constantly push Ward back and keep him at the end of his punches.
When he did attempt to get on the inside, the Krusher would simply tie Andre Ward up by out muscling and bullying him backwards onto the ropes. Ward was just too small and weak to rough up the naturally wider and stronger Sergey Kovalev. So it's nobody's fault but the Krusher's own for not taking care of business in there when the opportunity presented itself.
He was able to hurt and drop Ward in the first two rounds of that bout and didn't finish him. Had he capitalized on the opportunity, the fight wouldn't lasted another two rounds. He would have blasted Ward out of there by the 4th round; Which is something the Kovalev's fanboys obstinately refuses to acknowledge.
