well, the persona affects the fighter. I'm from ******ia for goddsakes and he was a hometown hero and ****, from the tidewater area where I'm from and got his ass dissowned when he got hooked on drugs and fell off the boxing scene

Whitaker ain't no Burt Cooper or Vince Phillips. I don't see how his habits affected his career. His losses had nothing to do with his addictions.

He was robbed in his biggest fight with Julio Ceaser Chavez and thorought most of his career was acclaimed as being one of the best fighters in the world.

I couldn't have said it better man.

          k for you.

u dont have to talk bad about him, as a fighter he was one of the best, outside of boxing he was entitled to do whateva the **** he wanted to he earned his money and could spend it whicheva way he wanted, and every fighter has there own personal problems, obstacles and dillemas in life, and for u to claim he was disowned and bad mouth him shows that ur not a loyal fan that sticks wit there fighter through ups and downs. sweet pete was the man, and p4p top ten fighter in history and thats all u should be sayin about him.

I have never seen a prime Whitaker fight either.I seen his fight with Trinidad where he was past his best.People say that at his best he was almost unbeatable and I know that most people say that his only real losses were to Trinidad and a journeyman when he broke his ankle or something so really the only loss that really counts for anything is the decision loss to Trinidad.I've heard he was robbed in his first loss, the DLH loss, and the draw with JCC.His outside the ring problems should have no bearing on his ring career.
