Sounds like crude tactics but thats what youve got to do against these slicker fighters, like maidana did against floyd (not what canelo did, trying to pick shots and ending up doing **** all)
Ive heard all this before, had this against hopkins, people saying kovalevs not gonna win a decision.
He hasnt been dropped cause hes not fought anyone with half the power of kovalev. Trust me when he gets hit hes going to get even more hesitant, he was hesitant to unload shots against brand, whats he going to be like against kovalev?!
And the big factor is this guy hasnt fought anyone with a pulse in 5 years, thats a long ****ing time, a factor you are all underestimating.
Of course i could be wrong, but i genuinely think kovalevs going to do a real number on ward over the course of 12 rounds
I'm afraid you understand quite a little from what you watch... (no offence intended...)

I think some legit boxing fans focus too much on the fanboy or hater fans who aren't the most hardcore of boxing fans typically (although some are obviously). I think some legit boxing fans focus so much on the fanboy or hater fans so much they become one of them. I've taken to responding less & less to those types of fans & just letting them appreciate boxing the way they appreciate it. Why do I give a f#ck if someone gets their enjoyment from boxing by ****ting on certain boxers or believing the sun rises & sits from the a$$shole of some other boxer?

This happens in other sports too. I got a friend who LOVES the Yankees losing & plenty of people from all around the US or the UK, if not all over the world, probably know tons of friends & relatives who are homer fans for the local/regional sports team. I don't think its a bad thing. You just gotta realize many of these types of fans like this aren't operating on a high boxing IQ level & they don't need to be. Their watching boxing & enjoying it the way they wanna enjoy it. Fair play to them.
glad im not the only one to notice....they arent real kov fans they just want ward to take an L

I mean it's understandable why he doesn't have a big fan base. If only simply winning was enough to captivate audiences and gain fans.
every fighter isnt the same...i appreciate things about all styles...boxing would be boring AF if every fought the same

I appreciate seeing someone with so much know how apply it in a fight, I enjoy watching ward....guys like him takes a certain type of opponent to bring the fight out.....why fight a war if you have to tools to not fight a war

yes, by any objective criteria ward is closer to the "boring" spectrum of boxing. but he's not as boring as f#Cking grabimir klitschko.

i mean, has there ever been a top fighter who RELIED so heavily on holding? who incorporated holding to such a degree? i'd really have to think about it. wladimir is the most prolific clincher i can remember. not only does he clinch, he doesn't keep a hand free and wrok. he just leans on you until the ref breaks them apart. ward detractors bring up the kessler fight, and while ward did hold, if you watch that fighy ou can actually see ward trying to keep his hands free, and kessler doing a lot of the holding, particularly later on. yes, ward ties guys up, but he's short armed and fights well inside. he does not want the ref to break the fighters! he's one of the best infighters in the sport!

you can't call wladimir a clean fighter an ward a dirty one. you can't call one boring and say that the other is not, either. yes, wladimir had power, but when he wasn't landing it he was about as boring as you can get in there. jab, grab. at least ward puts on actual boxing moves and has a diverse toolbox. if wladimir is out of range he steps back. if he's in range he steps forward and clinches. it's robotic as hell, and boring.
Good post. Ward's style gets too much flack on NSB.

yeah, why fight a war when you can headbutt and clinch and send the fans to sleep.

That is the essence of boxing...to only initiative when you're opponent has low odds of being able to punch back. Hence feints, angles, counter punching etc. The thing is, it's dam near impossible to keep it up for an entire fight, that's why even the purest boxers are forced to exchange or clinch sometimes. I'm not asking for ward to change his style...I'd just like to see him put touch more on his shots and let his hands loose a bit more. It was the same deal with mayweather for me, you know the guy has the capability to do it and just leaves you wanting. Even their biggest fans are not walking away from their fights completely satisfied...only cuz you want to see them showcase their full talent.
