He'd get suspended multiple times for Marijuana use and he'd probably end up with his face looking like a catchers mitt and brain damaged.

Swimming is not a skilled sport. You're just going through the motions perfecting one particular stroke.

Even on ESPN's top 60 hardest sports Swimming , sprint swimming to be exact which is what Phelps competes in, is ranked 45th.

Kids join the sport at a young age, not because they want to swim, it's because that's all they can do. They try other sports that involve skill and they suck at it. It's the way it is.

Michael Jordan for one, Muhammad Ali as well are way above Phelps.

Even today someone like LeBron is a far superior athlete to Phelps.

I can't find another sport outside of swimming where Phelps would succeed.

Usain Bolt is also a superior athlete. Bolt was a cricket player growing up and joined sprinting because his coaches thought he was too lazy. Bolt is a guy who didn't start sprinting until he was in high school and now he's the fastest man of all time.

        There's levels to this.

Some athletes are better in skilled sports, some are just naturally gifted, Phelps is neither. Phelps has to work really, really hard to perfect his strokes. There's nothing wrong with hard work. It's admirable. But he admitted he trained like 5 years straight without a day off. That tells you how hard he has to work to be good at this. These other guys don't have to work that hard. They let their skills and gifts take over.

and how did espn arrive at that, what science was there behind it, jack**** i imagine, if theres no skill or athleticism in it why is someone so much better at it then the rest? ANd just look at phelps, if he isnt an athlete i dont know what is. Guess you could say the same **** about usain bolt 'he was ****in useless at everything thats why he decided to run in a straight line'.

I'll dumb it down for you...

If you have to train 5 straight years without ever taking a day off, to be good at a sport then you're not a great athlete.

I can't think of another athlete in another sport that would waste that much time because they don't need to.

Like I said, it's admirable to be that dedicated to something. But it's also pointless.

He'd be Chavez Jr's smoke out buddy. They'd smoke out and eat cereal in their underwear together.

You mean the list in which rodeo riding, water polo, Bull/Bareback/Bronc Riding & lacrosse rank higher than most track & field & golf events? ESPN top 60 list LMAO Crank..

Which kids? Who are these kids who can only swim & that's all they can do? Are you sure you aren't confusing **** sapiens with Dolphins?

Michael Jordan for one, Muhammad Ali as well are way above Phelps.
                Above him where?

I can't find another sport outside of swimming where Phelps would succeed.
Have you seen him dedicate to another sport?

Cant believe someone is saying Phelps isnt the great because swimming is not a skilled sport, then goes on to say Bolt is great, a man famed for running fast over 100 and 200m, Im not doubting Bolts greatness here just pointing out the ridiculousness of his argument

surely that would mean that its such a hard sport to get to the top to that it requires that much training and dedication... your point just doesnt make sense at all. just ridiculous to say hes not a great athlete, will go down as possibly greatest olympian of all time in most sensible peoples opinions.

                      Found this too..

Several physical attributes particularly suit Phelps to swimming: his long, thin torso offers low drag; his arms span 6 feet 7 inches (201 cm)—disproportionate to his height of 6 feet 4 inches (193 cm)—and act as long, propulsive paddles.
His relatively short legs lower drag, and perhaps add the speed enhancement of a hydrofoil; his size-14 feet provide the effect of flipper and his hypermobile ankles can extend beyond the pointe of a ballet dancer, enabling him to whip his feet as if they were fins for maximum thrust through the water.
His lungs are nearly twice the size of the average human, at 12 litres.

But nah, hes not athletic at all lol
