Pretty de****able how this has been able to get through.

This kind of meddling in sports shows corruption and various forces at work changing things without really focusing on what's best for the sport, athletes, and fans. Just look at F1 in recent years, constant changes unsettling drivers, teams, and fans understanding.

To think of all the boxing regulations...and now they are effectively going to let a pro boxer like Wladimir Klitschko beat down a 20 year old amateur, without head gear.

I'm not hearing of any reassurances to the contrary that kind've scenario couldn't happen.

    Joke!

Jesus f#cking christ man. You'd think they okay'd the public execution of a 18 month old baby for smiling to perfectly.

Has any pro actually said he'll compete? Like he will compete not he's considering it like everyone I've seen talk about it so far. Besides those APB guys I mean. Those guys seem to be in a grey area with some saying they are pros now & others like myself seeing them as more semi-pro.

They should have made the people calling this go 3 rounds each with an amateur then pro.

Anybody left breathing would surely have voted differently.

People will probably be shocked at how some top pros will actually get their ass handed to them in the amateurs. Especially a lot of top heavyweights.

I don't agree with it....But i don't think its quite as as bad as it seems...I believe a top proffesional even if he decides to enter the tournament will recognise if he's facing an over matched opponent and not go full action man on him...plus a lot of top amateurs train in the same gyms as pros and actually spar regularly with them ...I use to box reguraly with pros and hold my own with them ...admittedly it wasn't against a GOLOVKIN or pacquaio either.....I just hope the referees do there job in there and if they see an over matched guy stop it straight away...I don't think many top pros wiill enter into it anyway.....could get injured or suffer a shocking defeat at the hands of an obscure amateur..it's a proper mess

I have serious doubts that in a 3 round match Mayweather or Pacquiao could beat him and I am sure they wouldn't hurt him. Rigondeux was amateur, Lomachenko was amateur, Golovkin was amateur.... and we have had figthing for titles guys like Molina or Leapai who would lost with all the top amateur heavyweights in an amateur match.

So that thought of people getting hurt is WBC, Oscar de la Hoya, bull****. I didn't see them worried about Khan health for example.
yeah they were amateurs once, that's true. When there was headgear and everything. If Loma went back to amateurs and fought in 14 oz gloves, no one would care. Wilder was a lanky bum with zero skill when he was pro 8 years ago. Hardly the same as a heavyweight champion of the world ffs.

But if Wladimir Klitschko or Deontay Wilder fights Joe Joyce now, it would be seriously wrong.

What you're essentially saying is that people are allowed to be kids because they were once kids too

I doubt any high level pros will apply

But even so I think a lot of people would be surprised by how competitive the fights would still be.

It's not like a pro is just gonna blow guys out of the water with no effort

They have spent years preparing for slower fights over 10-12 rounds

It will be a tricky adjustment to box at a higher pace for 3 rounds with not much time to make your mark on the fight

Obviously they focus on power a lot more so yes some kid might get KTFO but that's not really how people get severely damaged in boxing anyway. It's the long beatings that do permanent damage

Anyway, more of just a dumb idea not really a safety risk

They should create a different category for Amateurs. Look on the bright side. If the prospect of an Olympic medal is that tempting we may see fighters with no choice but to go up against each other. No promotion bull**** in the way.

                    f#cking pathetic.

i'd have no problem with pros fighting each other in an amateur format. this will lead to grown men fighting kids. they don't even wear head gear any more. these kids will get absolutely creamed.

can you imagine a 20 year old kid who has boxed for 8 years fighting gennady golovkin WITHOUT HEADGEAR AND WITHOUT GETTING PAID?!? that's evidently a possiblity now

anybody who has been watching amateur boxingwithout head gear knows thaty these kids are getting rocked easier. i've even seen some legit knockouts, which were pretty rare before the head gear was removed

they;ve been fighting grown men, for money, in a system that scores damage. the amateur kids aren't going to stand a chance if any top shelf pros "go amateur." you're just going to have to trust me if you can't see the huge gap in class.
