    Not in every country... In Cuba (if I'm not mistaken), the fighters only get a $300 monthly stipend to box on the national boxing team. roughly about $3600 a year? LOL... Not worth it. As for the other countries, is a measly $5K - 15K per fight really reasonable to fight against the likes of world class professional fighters? Those guys are being cheated, and their gold medals are being **********d.

      Thats bs, you are talking about 2 time gold medalists lol what about the rest. Especially the american, middle eastern, and british amateurs are nothing compared to the pros. With no head gear too, its too dangerous.

        What he said is true. Pros get beat up by high level amateurs in sparring and it is not uncommon.

          Competition head gear isn't a motor cycle helmet, your chin is still there to be hit. Plus even if you have the chin area covered with padding, the objective of head gear is to protect from cuts above the eyes so it doesn't exactly absorb impact. The saving grace of chinny fighters in amateurs is the scoring system which doesnt require you to settle down on your punches and where guys like Khan jump in, score their 1-2 and are out. Even left hooks are pointless.

            Have you ever sparred with head gear and without? Its much more dangerous. Also we all know the main reason they removed head gear from this Olympics is cuz ratings for boxing was down and they hope that now the fights will be more exciting. A pro being able to fight a random amateur with no head gear should be banned. Yes there are a few amatuers that can hang in with pros but the vast majority get killed. Have you watched the boxing last Olympics? Some of those guys barely knew any proper form.

                  2 sides to the story

                  There's fighters that didn't get picked for GB despite beating the person that did get picked so those people that was robbed of that opportunity through favouritism have a right to go for what they should have got in the 1st place THEN there's the high profile millionaire who really shouldn't get the opportunity because they will be taking the same possibility of financial gains of someone who worked hard to get it like they did

                    Yes but in Cuba they pretty much live for free you don't pay for things like we do they fill stadiums at baseball games nobody gets paid or charged entry fee
