That is a very silly thing to say, but instead of pouring scorn and mockery on it, I'll just ask a reasonable question instead.

Isn't much more likely that, after working his way down to 172, Ward and Hunter decided that it wouldn't be a good idea to go down any further, so they decided to campaign at 175 from then on?

Remember the explanation that Ward himself gave for the 172 catchweight ... "I need to see how my body reacts to the weight loss before I decide whether to go all the way back down to 168 again"

Then after the Smith fight, he moves up to 175.

If Andre could still make 168, he would have kept hold of his WBA SMW title and stayed in that division to defend it and go after unification fights with the other belt holders.

Kovalev is a great champion, but he is not a big name, and he doesn't have much of a fan base. High risk, low reward, in other words. He is most definitely not the kind of man you move up to fight if you can still make weight in your own division.

Yes, it was very well-documented at the time.

It's ok, I understand..... casual-fans and golovtards may not have noticed

Ward was working his way back down to 168, via 172..... but when lil'G ducked him FOR THE SECOND TIME Ward could see that there was no reason to stick around 168 waiting for a hypejob who will never fight him.

It was clearly documented at the time, even Loeffler confirmed it.....

Ward said his promoters at Roc Nation Sports sent a formal offer to Golovkin's team, but it was 'turned down in five minutes'.....

Loeffler added that he told Ward's promoters that Golovkin would be pleased to consider the bout in early 2017, if Ward was still fighting at 168 pounds......

A fan-pleasing alternative would be to step up to light-heavyweight to fight the unified WBA, IBF and WBO champion Sergey Kovalev, who - like Golovkin - is one of the sport's hardest hitters and is yet to be defeated.

Ward moved on to BIGGER and BETTER things.....

    Just like lil'G did......

    No, wait.....

GGG fanatics are idiots and hypocrites

Golovkin certainly rated Ward a lot higher than the loser kafkod does LMAO

Froch then became the top rated SMW, and Ward refused to give him a rematch.

You waffling on about Golovkin doesn't alter those facts, but seeing as you asked ... yes, until GGG fights Saunders and unifies the MW division, him being the best at 160 is just a matter of opinion. It's always a matter of opinion till it's settled in the ring.

Bute was an over-rated BUM you clown

That is as dumb as posters who say that Margarito could have beaten Mayweather.

        I will say it again.....

..... you wouldn't know a good fighter if he punched you in the face, foolio.

Why do you believe that the only option for Ward at 168 was to hang around and do nothing but wait for Mr 97k, the B side hype job, to move up from 160 and fight him?

Was 168 a desert .. an empty, abandoned weight class with nobody there at all for Ward to fight and defend his WBA title against?

And what obligation to you think GGG was under to move up a division for Ward? Does he owe Andre a living or what?

If a boxer gets an offer to move up a division and fight a bigger man, and he turns it down, that's no reason to condemn him or insult his fans.

He was certainly rated very highly by Ward and Hunter, otherwise they wouldn't have turned down big money offers to fight him.

Froch brutalised Bute, broke his heart, took his soul etc. That was best Carl ever fought in his entire career. I don't think any SMW in the world could have lived with him that night, including Ward.

This^^^^. It's all about the business of "prize" fighting. IMHO Ward is one of the best out there. I just wish he was busier so we can all enjoy watching him fight. His fights are scarce to say the least. GGG has said all along he wants to take the MW division not the SMW division. It's up to GGG to go up. He's under no obligation to do so. Still he is feared by most in his division, that's clear. The notion that either GGG or Ward is "ducking" anyone is ridiculous. Both of them are world class in their respective divisions. They have their records to prove it. Period. When either one is beaten by anybody than maybe the naysayers can talk. But until then....

Canelo IS an idiot, otherwise he would have fought at 160 after Golovkin agreed to allow him a voluntary defence before exercising his mandatory right to fight for the WBC title at the sanctioned MW limit.

THAT was supposed to be Canelo's chance to find out how he would feel weighing in at 160, instead of draining himself to 155. He didn't take that chance, and that's his problem, not Golovkin's.

GGG is 34 yo and had been mando for the WBC title for 2 freaking years ... how much longer did they expect him to wait for his shot?
Calm your t i t s man. Do you really think Canelo would of been ready for GGG after only 1 fight at the full MW limit of 160? If you do then you're naive. Hasn't it ever occurred to you that maybe Canelo was only meant to fight as a light middleweight? Don't you realize that some fighters were only meant to fight at 1 weight class, ex. Marvin Hagler.

And here's another good example - Aaron Pryor, a career 140 fighter, who wanted to challenge SRL. What happened to Aaron after only 1 fight when he finally moved up to 147? He got his ass beat by some scrub. Some fighters can move up and some can't, so who knows if Canelo will be successful or not at 160.

Why are you talking about Canelo moving up when he has been fighting in the MW division for 2 years and 5 fights?

Canelo wasn't being asked to move up to fight Golovkin. He was being asked to defend his MW title at the sanctioned MW limit of 160lbs.

Because there were no threats at 168, and everyone blew Hypekin up to be this avoided killer..... Ward knows exactly whats up, he knew that Golovkin would be an easy way to reestablish himself in the public eye.

Your personal brand of " spin " has always amused me.

For the longest time, you denied that Golovkin turned down that fight, you always attempted to blame Ward..... and yet, here you are admitting it LMAO

Props for finally smartening up, or did you blurt that out by accident ?

                      I agree with the bold.

Like I always say, casual-fans know nothing about styles/levels/weight.

That came down to style, the fact that Bute was horribly over-rated, and the fact that he couldn't take Froch's punch.
