This case is unique in that the substance was only recently banned. Apparently, it didn't raise red flags of making an athlete superman, or it would have been banned before. It does look like Povetkin took it after it was banned though, so imo he should be fined and suspended for 3-6 months. Afterwards, he should still be in line to challenge for the title.

Povetkin should be monitored and as soon as that stuff is out of his system the fight should happen.Last edited by Cinci Champ; 05-16-2016, 10:41 AM.

Thank you HBO for welcoming this "element" into our sport.
This is just the beginning folks.
It started with Manny and his "fans" Now we have to deal with a whole "new" region of the world with a totally different culture. This is the USSR and its former territories. You think boxing is bad now just wait until they are finish with it.

You as a fighter can't make your own rules unless you are prepared to vacate your belt. For example in the NFL if you get popped with PEDs you get a 4 game ban. The team that's scheduled to play you on that 5th game can't say screw that I'm still not playing against that cheater.
But Wilder should not have to wait one day for Povetkin. This is not a problem of Wilder's making, he did nothing wrong. He should be able to schedule another defense while all this is sorted out.
If the WBC says, "when Povetkin tests clean for a period of time, then the fight will be rescheduled," Wilder shouldn't have to wait until he tests clean and should be able to defend his title in the interim. Because what if he doesn't test clean for 6 months? Or nine? Or two years? What if he seems clean after a few tests and then he tests positive again (this just happened, btw, indicating he took it after Jan. 1, but I digress).
Wilder should schedule a summer voluntary defense. If after that Povetkin is clean, then they can look at that. But if Povetkin is suspended then he loses his mandatory status anyway and goes to the back of the line.
