Comments Thread For: Kovalev: No Plans To Leave 175, Even With Andre Ward Win

IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev has no plans to change his weight class. Kovalev will return to the ring on July 11th in Yekaterinburg against Isaac Chilemba. The fight is viewed as a stay busy contest for Kovalev to prepare for a fall showdown with Olympic gold medal winner Andre Ward.

Cruiser is not a hot division, there's a ton of upcoming stars at 175 though.

Beating Ward will put him on top of the sport.

Those guys at cruiserweight come in above 200 pounds. I'd imagine at least around 210 pounds.

Kovalev is probably around 185ish~ pounds re-hydrated on fight night.

Kovalev doesn't have the muscle mass to jump up to cruiserweight. He would need at least 1-2 years to get there, unless he started taking steroids. Even then, that's such a huge jump in weight, and at the cost of spending so much time to get there.

Kovalev fought at middleweight in the amateurs, his frame is too small for cruiser weight.

No money at cruiser weight anyway. He's wiser to stay at 175.

According to you Ward shouldn't be in the pound for pound discussion because he hasn't done anything lately. But you believe a win over Ward should put Kovalev at the top.

                Typical contradictory ******ity in NSB.
