Alvarez has made it beyond clear that, unlike Golovkin, the belt doesn't mean much to him; after all the nonsense that's been talked, he simply wants to kick Golovkin's ass. If K2's hangup ends up getting to the media as "since the WBC 160 belt is on the line, the fight has to be at 160", I don't doubt that Canelo pulls that card in an instance; head to ESPN, tell the folks that since he wants the fight, and Golovkin wants the fight, but the title belt seems to be in the way of the negotiations, 'here's the belt for you guys to keep' before moving on with his career.
Golovkin has three belts around his waist and, if his camp was being honest to the public, the biggest fight in his mind would then be the full unification with Billy Joe Saunders, rather than fighting "at less than 160lbs".
Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez has far more marketable fights beyond fighting Golovkin.

Maybe it's me reading too much into folk's words, but I took that signal to mean that, if K2 continues to hang the weight nonsense on the belt, Alvarez will vacate the belt straight-away.
After Floyd beat him, Alvarez seemed pretty well content to fight out this next stretch of his career out without the hangup on having different belts if it meant that he got to have the fights.
If the belt is out of the way, and Golovkin is still insistent on hoping that Alvarez walks, Alvarez questions Golovkin's manhood and moves on with his career (eyeing potential money rematches against Cotto or Mayweather, with the Pacquiao fight still being an option)

Heck, Mayweather-Pacquiao II ****s on Alvarez-Golovkin, and I'd say that Alvarez-Cotto II, Mayweather-Garcia, and Alvarez-Pacquiao are also bigger fights.

This is the most confident I've been that GGG will fight the guy most see as the middleweight champion after two changes of that title.

I don't have a problem making the weight, but i have a team, again, if i can do what i want, i don't have a problem, but i have a team.

"I will fight him at 160lb, no problem," said Alvarez
And Fat Dan
Asked about the weight for a GGG fight Canelo said, and I quote: 'I'll fight him at 160.'

I don't care what the wbc or anyone on this side of the universe says.
Canelo said:
If it is up to me i would fight him at 160, but i have a team and we need to go back to headquarters and discuss this.
