Comments Thread For: Stevenson: Ward needs 2-3 more to have 50-50 chance vs. Kovalev

WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (27-1) has had his name mentioned along with WBA/IBF/WBO champion Sergey Kovalev for over two years. Fans have clamored for the unification fight that would produce an undisputed champion but the dream fight has failed to materialize for several reasons.

Maybe just one more, but that guy needs to have the ability to test Ward. If the HBO feud with Haymon is over, then there are plenty of fighters to choose from! If the feud is active, then I don't know. Maybe Vyacheslav Shabranskyy? Who is his promoter?

Ward is NOT ready for Kovalev...He used everything he had in him to beat Sullivan and didn't look A1 doing it....Kovalev landing those same shots would hurt Andre so he definitly needs a few more fights at the weight....

He's fine. If he thinks he needs one more to fit in before this fall, then okay. If not, he'll be ready.

Really, Ward has accomplish more than you will in boxing in your life time and now you have the nerve to say what he needs. Ward need you to step up to the plate and fight anyone who can fight even a little bit!

The pimp is so ****** that he has to quote Boone -- who just said GGG would beat Ward and Kovalev... and that Ward needs 2-3 more tune up before facing Kova...

My take is that ward will never fight Kovalev. He will take another well deserved tune up and he will hang them up... or return to 168 in order to fight the guy he first ducked -- Bute... when Bute will be 38 or 39...

[QUOTE=BIGPOPPAPUMP;16631922]WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (27-1) has had his name mentioned along with WBA/IBF/WBO champion Sergey Kovalev for over two years. Styles make fights gentleman. I do feel Ward needs another tune up fight simply bc of the lay off. Thats just common sense. It has nothing to do with Kovalev. But if you want to get technical, what makes you think Ward would fight any boxer the same as the last? Real boxers make adjustments. Its why the first round or 2 are call feel out rounds. Do you really think Ward who's been boxing over 20 years would just sit there and trade with Kovalev? Obviously in his last fight, he started to feel the other fighter's power and felt like he could take his punch. Ward does have a chin. But he surely wouldn't get hit with the same punches bc his style and defense would be different. The only concern for a boxer with Ward's experience would be his timing. His offense needs to be sharper to make Kovalev have to think about his punches. Kovalev is a pressure fighter. Thats easy until you match up with a boxer who can counter. Kovalev hasn't faced a true "in their prime boxer". It will be an interesting fight indeed. The edge is Ward based on experience and skill. Not power. I think Mayweather proved that throughout his career that skill wins. Mayweather could've lost or been knocked out by plenty of his opponents, but making adjustments aka "boxing iq" (not power) is what truly gets the W.

This s-h-i-t is funny. Stevenson is effectively nothing more than a pundit commentating on the division that has carried on without him - at least he's not pretending that he wants to fight either of them. He needs to hand over that Ring belt & the green strap to Kovalev/number 1 at 175.
