Comments Thread For: Frank Warren Reacts To Hearn's Joshua Plan vs. Fury-Klitschko II

We know that BoxNation's surprise acquisition of the Tyson Fury-Wladimir Klitschko re-match has got up the noses of Matchroom and Sky. Curiously, Eddie Hearn now promises he has a little something' planned [with Anthony Joshua] for July 9 at Wembley Stadium, the same night Fury meets Klitschko in Manchester. That's not happening.

The problem for Frank is not the quality of the fight being shown, but the quality of the marketing.

Sky Sports reaches pretty much every ear that matters (sports fans aged 18-60) through the Sky Sports News (online and on TV) and adverts during Premier League matches (and a host of other sports such as Cricket, Rugby, Tennis, F1 etc etc). They have the casual's ear.

Boxnation has Franks column in the Star newspaper (i think?) and adverts on BN which only a handful of homes subscribe to. Biggest plus for them is the coverage that Fury gets just by being Fury, but i dont think that will be enough

Going head to head will hurt both networks ratings, and I think it is silly for Sky to go down that route, but they will do better than Fury vs Klitschko IMO

Everyone saw the first fight between Fury and Wlad - it will be the same boring fight - with plenty of feinting and no punches thrown

With the Joshua fight - at least their will be a knock out - Frank is a cvnt - a very bitter cvnt - who the **** has hughie fought to suggest he would defeat Joshua!!!

It's madness that Boxing is on that date - with the UFC and many other sports happening

It's crazy that everyone wants that date

I am pretty sure Joshua will have more viewers than Fury Wlad fight

so Fwank can go and eat **** - the guy has no loyalty

Withe the power of Sky, they can promote the AJ fight better but I don't think it would draw more than Fury v Wlad in terms of a global audience. Remember, Fur/Wlad 2 will be shown on HBO, in Germany and here in the UK, not to mention various other territories.

AJ, even with all the PPV money behind hi, is very much a local star. Unless it's AJ v Wilder, which I really doubt lol

It's amusing that everyone is crying about Fury-Wlad being a boring fight. At the end of the day, these are the top two guys in the division fighting each other. It's not like Wilder or Joshua fighting some random bum. Klitschko fights are never entertaining, it's impossible to look good against the guy.

Rigondeaux fights are more boring, but do you see people up in arms about it here? No, generally most boxing observers recognise his skills and see the subtle things he does in the ring. Same with Andre Ward, Erislandy Lara etc.

There's no f'king way Joshua vs Scott does better than Fury vs Klitschko 2.

            No way.

Other than that, you are right in BoxNation's marketing. It's poor. the content craps all over Sky's in terms of fight. But the production and hype machine sucks.

When a fight is on BoxNation i'm automatically less psyched, just because of the poor production.

Fury vs Klitschko 1 did about 800k on PPV.

Joshua vs Martin "only" did 600-700k and that was hyped to the heavens for ages.

So Fury must have some pulling power, and once he gets that mouth going, people will forget about the relatively cagey affair they had the first time.

Which also wasn't as bad as some people say. I think it was a decent fight.

Rather watch that than watch Joshua spank someone in the first round if i'm honest.

I dont think so. Maybe a year ago, not now.

Like you said above fury only did 100k more on Sky PPV vs Klitschko than Josh did vs Martin. The difference would have to be more if Fury is going to outdo him from BN's platform imo. Especially with the first fight being a bit of a stinker.

It's a tad bit arrogant of Hearn with this move.. Some hubris.

Yeah that was Joshua in a world title fight in probably what was Sky's most hyped fight since Froch vs Groves II.

Joshua vs Scott or Stiverne / Fury vs Klitschko?

I'm sure joshua could still sell out O2 with little problems, but I can't see it compete with the real heavyweight championship. No paper belts.
