It'll probably be his shoulder surgery that affected his performance or past prime which are both true but nothing to be ashamed of because he is taking on a bigger man with devastating power

The "Kovalev" fans seemingly have way more material to work with when it comes to excuses.
Ward the fighter doesn't make excuses, he doesn't tell you he was sick when he doesn't perform to the best of his capabilities.
But overall I agree with your post.

Ward fans wanted this fight win or lose, we aren't the ones that made threads saying Ward would duck, retire, pull out with an injury. Neither are we the ones making threads about refs and judges months in advance of the fight.
So tell me what side of fans are likely to be making excuses when their fighter loses??

Every fighter has good and bad points. His talents are strong enough that you don't see people feeling the need to excuse his faults.

Of the top of my head, he said he was being forced to fight Kovalev because of the color of his skin. Sounds like a whining excuse to me.
