Anthony Joshua vs Charles Martin

Cant see Martin winning this one, if we look at both their records. Joshua's is above martins at this point when all things considered.
Lets start at the amatuers:
Martin: 63 fights.
Won the 2012 National PAL Championships.
2012 National Golden Gloves Runner Up
Joshua: 20 something fights.
2010 won the ABA National Championships 91 kg+ in Bethnal Green, London as a Super Heavyweight.
2010 won the Haringey International Tournament in Haringey, London as a Super Heavyweigh
2011 won the ABA National Championships 91 kg+ in Colchester, Es*** as a Super Heavyweight
2011 came 2nd in the 16th 2011 AIBA World Boxing Championships 91 kg+ in Baku, Azerbaijan as a Super Heavyweight
2012 Super Heavyweight Olympic Gold
So comaparing their amauter records Joshua achieved more than Martin did and with less fights. However we all know that it doesnt mean they will transfer into the pro ranks. We have all seen Audley, before any idiots throw that one in. However its a good indication on how they will fair in the pro ranks.
So Pro fights:
Martin: 24 fights, 23 wins (21 knockouts), 0 losses, 1 draw
Focusing on a draw here first of all in his 7th fight. Could anyone actually see Joshua drawing against this Guy I certinaly can't. Secondly Raphael Zumbano Love, a common opponent for Joshua. Took Martin 10rnds, took Joshua 2rnds. And finally Glazkov who looked dwarfed in the ring with Martin, managed to fall over twice and hurt himself. Was a draw until that point imo. However I fully expected Martin to take over and win that if Glazkov didnt hurt himself.
Joshua: 15w 15kos 0 losses.
Has never looked in any real trouble in any of his fights, (clipped by Whyte once) thats it.. Never been past the 7th round. Johnson was supposed to give him rounds, that ended badly for Johnson.
So on paper, amatuer and current performances I'd have to say Joshua is the favorite.Last edited by bboy80; 03-29-2016, 05:49 PM.

Joshua is favourite - if this was against a no-belt Martin, most would probably see it as a fight between two undefeated prospects, one of which looks a lot more explosive and generally better - AJ. Martin is a decent fighter of course and has that southpaw style, decent boxing and power, but not sure how good his chin is and he may get blown out by AJ. Hopefully the two styles gel well though and we get a war.

Martin would struggle against any top prospect. He just doesn't look that good.
So he has picked the one that comes with the most cash. Makes perfect sense.

Martin could have took repeated bum fights while saying the big fights can't be made like Stevenson does. Around 3 or 4 smaller headlining fights would have equaled the Joshua money. And Martin could have fought in America, his home town or state even. Instead he is making a defense against a threat in Joshu's backyard. And it's a high risk low reward fight as people will say Joshua wasn't ready, isn't good etc if Joshua loses. So I think Martin deserves respect. I'm not saying anyone should call him p4p number one, I'm just pointing out that he did something many wouldn't have done.

He could have went the Stevenson route and didn't. Of course he is fighting for money, every single pro boxer is. It's the point he took a risk as his first defense when he didn't have to. Joshua's first defense will be Shannon Briggs should Joshua win. And it won't be in America either.
And all I read from the experts on here is that Joshua is a roided up stiff bum, so if everyone on here is to be believed, this isnt much of a risk for martin
