Comments Thread For: Roach: I Think Kovalev Will Be Too Big, Strong For Andre Ward

Last month, Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach worked the corner of Jean Pascal as he went up against WBO/WBA/IBF light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (29-0-1, 26KOs) at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

Kovakev is big and very strong. His boxing IQ is a bit underrated too. I think it will be play a major factor come fight night, but its not like Ward has no chance. Ward can fight and if someone has a chance, its him. Hope this fight gets made

Kovalev is a very great orthodox fight who operates well with his range..thats also whhere i see Wards strengths.. its gonna be very VERY difficult for Kov to measure Ward. Ward has great head movement and he keeps it tucked nicely as he slips inside and does work.

Its not gonna be an easy night for Kova bcuz he has legit threat in ward...it wont be easy for neither. Lookn forward to see eachs strategy..especially Wards.

I have to see how Ward looks with Barrera before I make a fair assessment

His IQ is very underrated, Kovalev is extremely well schooled and measured. He doesn't rush things even when he can.

If he's gonna crush a weak American, I wonder what he'd do to a Brit.

I agree, Kovalev is the easy favorite in this fight because it's a bad style match up for Andre Ward. Not only is he giving up size and strength. He is also a light puncher. In addition, he is going to be at a height and reach disadvantage on fight night. So there goes his boxing Sergey from the outside.

The only chance I can give Andre Ward if he can consistently back Kovalev up by making it a very bruising and physical fight. Like using his elbows and head to cause a cut while constantly tying him up on the inside with one hand while landing with the other.

However, Ward does have the speed advantage so we are just going to see how this fight pans out. I hate to admit though, but right now it doesn't look very good for Andre ward going into this fight. He just might get stopped.
