This is what fans want to see. Fair play, no clinch, all balls, win or lose.

Round 12 between Sergio Martinez and Chavez Jr, back in 2012.

Martinez shows how to fight. Win or lose, he didn't want to clinch and he wanted to fight. He engaged. He could run, but he didn't want to. He could clinch, but he didn't want to. He later said he wanted to be a champion and win it like a champion, not like a coward.

This is the action that brings fans into watching the sport.

    Clinch should be banned ASAP.

that's why u have different styles of boxing, u want every fight to be this way? I appreciate the brawls but I hold more dear to skill n technical fights. I learn more that way. if ur a boxing fan and like more of a brawling like style that's cool but to totally sht on other styles and constantly bash them makes no sense. balance is the key!!! its a part of everyday life but boxing fans somehow never think to use it in their approach to their "favorite sport". great round of fighting by the way. clinching is used when a fighter is out of position and is taught in all gyms on some level. a fighter clinching to win (klitz) is one thing, but a fighter clinching to throw off an opponents offense when out of position is another thing.

So you're labelling Sergio Martinez a brawler? wow, what people will do to prove a point...
He won the fight for his speed and technical skills, but when he was almost KO'ed, he showed heart and went to fight, when he could have ran or clinched.

I wholeheartedly agree. That round shows BALLS that are rarely seen in today's boxing.

          How about ducking GGG?

Not clinching when you're hurt id for dummies by the way. Nothing ballsy about that.

Spare him -- he doesn't know what he is talking...

(Retrospectively speaking, I'm sure that Martinez would later have prefered that he better clinched in that 12th round -- taking into account that it was precisely that round which ruined his career...)

ive never labeled him a brawler, stop it.. I used brawling as an example! Sergio martinez was a very limited fighter, had no amature backround and he fought with what he had which is what made him special to me as a fighter. had he fought smart in that round he wouldn't have almost got knocked out. if this is the approach u would take then fine. but if a fighter does otherwise doesn't make him less of a fighter. he had the fight in the bag, if it was your son in the ring ud be screaming at him for the approach. not only did Martinez almost get knocked out, he wasn't really ever the same after that, it definitely took something from him. its not the approach every fighter takes to go balls out after destroying a fighter for 11 rounds.

no spare yourself the reason I brought up brawling was from an overall standpoint, people make this big argument that people who don't brawl aren't real fighters. I wasn't speaking of Sergio as a brawler, however it was a very dumb decision for him to fight that way in that round, he had a career ahead of him and the punches he took definitely affected his career.
