Good points. But why now ... these last few years?

For 50 years there been facilities and heritage and multi-culture. Poverty was probably worse 40-50 years ago what with slums in every major city ... not so much now.

We'll see. Loeffler said he's going to try and make that fight if Saunders says no.

I hope it gets made as well. But I can understand why the money should be right, especially after hearing Monroe got roughly 30k for fighting GGG with no future opponents on the horizon.

it just comes down to money really. the government subsidises our amateur programs, allowing fighters to train full time from a young age, and hearn and warren have comparatively huge budgets and really deep involvement in all levels of british professional boxing

In focusing so intently on "OMG, Erislandy Lara got paid $1m!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!", you miss out on the reality that that entire PBC on ESPN card only had total payouts that ended up being under $2m, well in line with the believed payouts for most, run of the mill, HBO cards.

Degale-Bute was on PPV in Canada; if you expect anyone to actually think that Showtime paid $3m to air that fight, you must also believe that HBO shelled out $5m for Kovalev-Pascal. gtfoh.

Ward got the big budget because he came over to HBO as an attraction, after his rep making performance in Showtime's Super Six tournament. Hbo has yet to put that kind of money behind Golovkin, and I doubt that they put that kind of money behind Golovkin for his next fight (might even have the gall to try and push that can fight to HBO as well).

Beyond that, you're overestimating the type of international money that would get put behind a 3am fight in the UK (or a 5am fight in Germany), lol.

Showtime has shown that, if need be, they're more than willing to spend the money for the fights that they want.

HBO has yet to do the same; imagine that Golovkin-Jacobs is the first fight for them to do so, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

No one's dis*****g the Showtime pot is separate from the PBC pot. What we seem to be arguing is whether Haymon won't subsidize his Showtime cards with his hedge fund money.

Al insists on overpaying his fighters way above their market value to keep them very happy and disrupt the market for promoters like TR. Showtime has a smaller budget than HBO, before this year Showtime wasn't buying fights like Jacobs/Quillin for over $3mill, lol...

And I'm glad you brought up HBO investing big money into Andre Ward as a big draw, when in fact he wasn't. They projected him to be, but his Showtime ratings were around only 600k. HBO seen a potential return behind him and invested. And like Hershman felt towards Ward, Nelson feels the same about Golovkin (as stated in his HBO podcast interview). We'll see how much so. Loeffler says he'll seek a fight with Jacobs once he gets a firm no from Warren.

K2 is aware of what Jacobs' has been getting paid, and they know it'll require a career-high to get him into the ring with Golovkin. The question is, even if they offer Danny $2mill, would Haymon let him fight on HBO?

Ok, so now we're talking about a completely different issue than mentioned before (i.e. Saunders speaks for the whole MW division).

To question the fighters willingness to get in the ring with another fighter is one thing. But if we're talking about promoter/manager/adviser politics, that's another issue that's not the fault of the fighter willing to fight for the right compensation.

But to answer your question, I think Haymon will give him the green light. Haymon gave Stevenson the green light against Kovalev, but that fight never materialized because Duva wouldn't bid on the fight.

Haymon will let his fighters fight for the right $$$. And if GGG's team gives up the money, there's no doubt in my mind the fight will happen.

                    Summarizing:-
                    a/ I don't fear anyone including GGG - Good!
b/ Al Haymon has much influence on who I fight -Not so good!
c/ The money has to be right - Starting to sound like the beginnings of a duck.

In fairness I'd say Eubank-Jacobs can be big money in the UK - the winner will come out with an enhanced rep. Meanwhile Golovkin can get his mandatory out the way with Johnson.

Then I'd like to see either GGG in with either Canelo or Jacobs (assuming he beats Eubank). Most likely the latter two will both swerve a bullet and fight each other.

With Top Rank still grasping for a scrap of anything to gird their lawsuit with, why in the blue hell would Al Haymon use PBC money to subsidize a show that has nothing to do with the PBC series effort; please try and think.

Beyond that, do you honestly believe that Showtime was able to deliver all of those stacked tripleheaders and quadrupleheaders from 2013 on short budgets? gtfoh

We will see what Peter Nelson values Golovkin at in due time; HBO didn't think enough of Golovkin to air Golovkin-Lemeiux on regular HBO (a card that had around the same fighter payouts as Jacobs-Quillin, though without Canadian PPV), and the WBA is on the verge of mandating Golovkin-Jacobs anyway.

When K2 forces Golovkin to vacate the belt, hopefully you still stand by your words here.
