A purse bid would of paid them BOTH a lot of money! I thought it was fair. HBO has BIG pockets! If they wanted the fight and truly believed in him. Stevenson said he would fight on HBO if they lost the bid.

I believe Duva was the one who even requested it to go to bid and then BAILED out at the last minute. HBO probably told her poor @ss Kov. wasn't worth it.

        1. To be allowed to fight for Jean Pascal's WBC diamond belt. WBC diamond belts are supposed to be honorary awards given to the winner of one specific fight. Diamond belts are not supposed to be able to be defended or lost subsequently, but Kovalev asked for an exception, which the WBC granted.

        2. In the event that he won the WBC diamond belt, to be declared the mandatory to Stevenson's WBC world championship. A very unusual request, which the WBC granted.

        3. That the money in a purse bid be split 50/50, which would not be the typical split for a WBC world champion fighting a mandatory, but the WBC nonetheless granted the request.

Kovalev was given everything he asked for by the WBC. A shot at Pascal's diamond belt, to become the mandatory if he won, with a 50/50 purse bid.

When the purse bid was ordered, Stevenson agreed to fight Kovalev. At the time, KOVALEV WAS A TELEVISION FREE AGENT, HIS HBO CONTRACT HAD EXPIRED.

Kovalev used the purse bid as leverage to scare HBO into giving him another contract. Kovalev pulled out of the purse bid, refused to fight Stevenson, and signed an exclusive HBO contract instead.

These are all easily verifiable facts, yet many here on boxingscene have been manipulated by HBO propaganda and live in an alternate universe where they pretend it is Stevenson that won't agree to the fight, even though he did agree and Kovalev backed out.

What a weird website this is.
Could be the case, but Stevenson was planing on being where Kova is now. Kova got the big fights and at one time needed Stevenson. Now Kova doesnt need him. Has he rematch with Pascal and the deal to fight Ward. If he happens with Stevenson so be it but Kova isnt chasing it anymore cause he doesnt need it. Stevenson on the other hand knows his time is limited and has become interested in fighting Kova.
