    Canelo v Cotto THOUGHTS

    Anyone else think Alvarez is still the same fighter, he's been since 2013? I predicted he would beat Cotto but I did feel as though Cotto would get the earlier rounds until Canelo took over towards the middle. Cotto was doing really well imo when he was moving around, not allowing Canelo to settle, forcing Canelo to follow him and throw only one or two punches max on the move when he would reply with 3-4.

    Canelos size and power took over, Cotto obviously got tired towards the middle/latter rounds and he started to trade with Canelo a bit but they didn't seem to affect Canelo at all.

    I actually felt Cotto fought really well, Canelo made the best of what he had and it got him through the fight, he knows his strengths and uses them well. Whenever Canelo landed on Cotto, Cotto immediately responded with 3-4 of his own, smart.

    Those thinking Canelo could beat Floyd, are delusional. Cotto was outworking and outboxing Canelo for portions of that fight, clearly. Floyd is just a better boxer, slicker and does whatever it takes to win (clinch, grab, cheap shots).

    GGG vs Canelo would be an awesome fight. I'm a big fan of both guys, people really over hype GGG but hes clearly the best at 160 and below. Ward should focus on Kovalev or people at 168/175 rather than 160 GGG though. I think GGG would win, he has has more tools in his arsenal but Canelo is slicker from a defense POV (hard to catch him clean and has very good reflexes) and far more explosive.

    Where will Cotto go from here? I'd like to see him vs Bradley, Lara...a name basically. He didn't get destroyed or anything, very competitive fight so he doesn't need to fight scrubs.

    I really enjoyed this fight, hardly any clinching, good output, excellent skills shown from both men at the highest level. Kudos.

    He's improved since the Mayweather fight.

    Not only as a fighter, but I believe they have got their tactics correct in each fight since.

    He still wouldn't beat Mayweather who is simply a level above everyone else, but he would probably approach it very differently and try to use his size and strength like he did against Cotto.

      If Canelo could have a somewhat close fight with Mayweather they'd award him the win I think.
      Don't see Floyd coming out of retirement for this fight though.

          Yeah, that 'draw' in the first fight probably rules out any possibility of it.

          If an 11-1 type performance only earns you a majority decision, it would seem silly to do it again.

              It's also about competition too, Canelo has fought Floyd, Trout, Cotto, Lara, Kirkland, way better competition than GGG ALSO they're quicker and it's harder to land on someone who is quicker and more elusive.

              It'd be a damn good fight. GGG has the pure boxing skill, power advantage but as I said before, Canelo is slick, explosive and he legit looks like a small tank lol. Both have good chins too.

                Besides the 12th I thought the most exciting part was Canelo saying he will fight GGG lol.
                Had it 9-3 and I can't even believe some people had it close. I can count on one hand the left hooks Cotto Landed all fight. Canelo landed almost every single meaningful punch and showed really good defense.

                He was also huge and is a middleweight no matter what BS catch weight he makes people fight at

                  I had it close because there were whole rounds where Canelo barely landed a punch. Plus JABS count, and Cotto's jab was the most dominant punch in the fight. It was a close fight, if you break it down round by round and not get influenced by the commentary you would see that. I had Canelo 115-113 as did the majority of press row, if you look around the majority of boxing websites, the most common scores are between 116-112 Canelo to 115-113 Cotto.

                  After the debacle with the WBC, the whole event stinks. Don't get me wrong it was probably the right decision, but those scorecards are poor to me and a lot of others too from the looks of it. I would love to pick the fight apart round by round on video with some of you guys and actually see why you think Canelo deserves 9 rounds.

                    I had it 117-111 but I'm sure I could probably give Cotto another round to make it 116-112 which would mirror what you said.

                    I didn't hear any commentary, I had 8-9 guys around me and we were loud so that didn't influence my thoughts.

                    Jabs do count but so do uppercuts,hooks,and other power punches which Canelo landed pretty much all the meaningful ones IMO.
