Comments Thread For: Photos: Abraham Crushes Martin Murray's Title Dream

Martin Murray's world title dreams were shattered again after he lost to Arthur Abraham in a split decision in Germany.

The St Helens star gave it everything, taking the established champion the distance yet missing out on the WBO world super-middleweight title.

Scores of 115-112, 112-115 and 116-111 were a little harsh on Murray's performance although with Abraham making the most of a supposed low blow early on, and the referee eventually docking the challenger a point in the 11th, it was the outcome British fans feared.

I had it 115-112 Murray. Maybe 114-113 Murray if I'm being generous to Abraham. The judges in Germany are a joke. Boxing should be banned in Germany, robberies every time. Murray deserves to have won a world title 3 separate times now

There was no "robbery" here just like there wasn't in Cotto-Canelo.

Have you even watched this fight?

I know you don't like Murray, so probably not. He was robbed, Mate.

Canelo deserved the win over Cotto. I would have scored it closer, but no doubt about it, Canelo deserved the win.

No way did Abraham deserve the win over Murray. Seems like all the home fighter has to do to retain his title in Germany is to not get KO'd.

This doesn't bode well for Fury/Klitscko next weekend.

I didn't watch it live, so I already knew that Murray had lost, and I didn't have any of that subconscious bias that can cloud the judgement when you are watching a fight live and willing your man to win.

Throughout the fight, Murray must have landed 3/4 punches to Abraham's one, and his punches were cleaner than Abraham's.

The 2 points he had deducted for holding were just the icing on the home-cooked cake.

He only had 1 point deducted for holding and it was fully warranted

115-112 for Murray would have been about right, allowing for the point he had deducted for holding.

Whether he deserved that penalty is another matter.

But we already know from watching Wlad's fights that the judges in Germany don't like holding, yeah?

            ****ing bent bastards.

First Sturm then Martinez now Abraham - BOOOOOOOOOOOM!

In honesty I think he definitely deserved the nod against Sturm and Martinez could make argument for him with Abraham I didn't like AA slapping shot combos that he threw every odd once in a while I do believe the judges were motivated on the crowd screaming full pitch when Abraham threw right hooks and missed.
Still not bad for MM, proves why the middleweight division is clearly better.

I just got out of bed with a hang-over after staying up till 7am watching the fights and no coffee left in the jar to help me out.

Me and my mate used it all up last night trying to stay awake through Rigo's fight.

If you have watched Murray/Abraham, take your "all Golovkin's opponents are shit" glasses off and watch it again. He was fucking robbed.

Murray is a good fighter. He just doesn't have that extra gear to step up the pace when he needs to, away from home.

No way is AA the No1 SMW. DeGale, Groves and Dirrell would all beat him.

But not in Germany doe. I watched it on YT on German TV. At the end of each round, they had slo-mo replays of whatever scuffing punches AA had managed to land. All Murray's clean shots, and AA being staggered twice, were ignored.

Obviously, the judges followed the same policy.
