He says the Kovalev fight is a matter of "when", not "if".
With anybody else, I'd think for sure, that fight is going to happen. But after seeing Ward dangle rematches in front of Froch and Kessler for 4 years, without delivering, I've learned not to take anything he says seriously.

it's hard to believe that he actually wants Kovalev when he was trying to drag unranked SWMs to LHW

Ward has no choice but to fight Kov. And HBO has a contract for it. I believe 2016 Fall is the deadline. Don't know why everyone is tripping? Should be an AWESOME fight. But gonna take the better boxer over the puncher like always.

Duva says they have a signed contract with Andre for the end of 2016, but who knows the details, it seems a lot can change from til then in regards to the agreed split. At anyrate it's a step ahead of the verbal agreement they had with Stevenson a year ago.
Sergey Kovalev’s promoter said unbeaten former super-middleweight champion Andre Ward has signed two agreements to fight the unbeaten Kovalev in the second half of 2016.
The compelling showdown, inked by Ward for an HBO pay-per-view bout targeted for either Las Vegas or New York, will match two of boxing’s top pound-for-pound fighters. An HBO official confirmed Ward has agreed to the meeting.
“The only way we can get from here to there is to start somewhere. We’ve started,” Kovalev promoter Kathy Duva told The Times on Friday, adding that the Russian has also signed a contract with Ward and an agreement with HBO.

relaly not liking some of ward's rhetoric concerning opponents, etc.
i do know that he's contractually obligated to fight sergei kovalev, but that doesn't mean that he's going to fight him.
i don't see any reason to strat to panic yet, but if they guy can't get through training camp he's not going to be following through with his agreement to fight kovalev.
we shall see.
